My Dog Training Philosophy and Approach
Training isn't about teaching your dog to be a robot. It’s about building a language of trust, respect, and deep connection so you can truly enjoy being together.
If there's one piece of advice I always give, it's this: cherish the time you spend together. While discipline has its place, the foundation of all good training is a strong, loving relationship with your dog.
Many of us treat our dogs like family, but what does that really mean? This series explores how to love your dog based on their needs as a different species, not as little humans.
Understanding your dog's "language" is crucial. A wagging tail isn't always happy, and a yawn can signal stress. Learning to read their body language is the first step to building trust.
Respecting your dog's species-specific needs is key. This means giving them outlets for natural behaviors like sniffing, digging, and chewing, along with proper exercise and diet.
Just like children, dogs need to feel safe and supported. Prioritizing their emotional needs involves maintaining a consistent routine, building trust, and never forcing them into uncomfortable social situations.
Affection and bonding are strengthened through play and respectful physical touch. It's important to understand that every dog has different preferences for how they like to be approached and handled.
Healthy boundaries give dogs clarity and help them feel secure. Setting clear expectations and respecting limits is crucial for preventing anxiety and helping your dog thrive both at home and in the outside world.
About this collection
I don't believe in cookie-cutter training because every dog—like my own Belgian Malinois, Floyd—has a unique temperament. My focus is on helping you understand the why behind the behavior, moving away from just drilling commands and toward building a real partnership. We will identify what triggers your dog’s stress, learn to read their body language, and create clear boundaries that allow them to feel secure in our busy city.
When you live in a city like Bangalore, it is easy to get caught up in the stress of leash pulling, reactivity, or just getting through a walk without an incident. But often, the solution is not more control; it is better communication.
My approach looks at the whole dog. We focus on respecting their species-specific needs—their desire to sniff, their need to decompress, and their unique way of viewing the world. Dogs are not little humans, and treating them like one can often lead to anxiety and confusion. I help you see the world from their perspective.
Here is what we focus on:
- Understanding Body Language: A wagging tail is not always a happy tail, and yawning can be a sign of stress. I teach you the subtle signs your dog uses to tell you they are uncomfortable, so you can advocate for them before a situation escalates.
- Connection Over Commands: A dog that listens because they trust you is fundamentally different from a dog that listens because they are afraid of the consequences. We build that trust through play, patience, and consistent, fair boundaries.
- Bangalore-Specific Socialization: Whether it is navigating a crowded park or managing excitement around guests, we work on real-life skills. I show you how to manage your dog's environment so they gain confidence rather than being forced into social interactions they are not ready for.
If you are tired of generic advice and want to build a relationship based on mutual respect, I am here to help you get there.
