About this collection
It is not just about the gear; it is about understanding light and the story you are trying to tell. Whether I am shooting on my Nikon or my iPhone, my process starts long before I hit record. I focus on raw captures and cinematic color grading to ensure every frame feels like a memory, not just another video.
Shooting for the Edit
Shooting in RAW is my non-negotiable. It gives me the dynamic range to pull details from shadows—especially crucial when I am chasing the videsh ki dhoop (foreign sun) or the moody light of a Delhi winter. I don't just point and shoot; I plan for the post-production stage before I even press the button.
The Power of Color Grading
This is where the magic happens. My LUTs are not just generic filters; they are moody palettes I built after years of trial and error in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro. I created them because I couldn't find the perfect cinematic look anywhere else, and I wanted consistency across my work.
Mobile Filmmaking Hacks
Don't underestimate the iPhone. If you know how to set your white balance and frame rates—PAL is a must—your phone is a beast. I shoot ProRes Log when I need flexibility, and I am always tweaking my settings to match my pro rigs. It is about how you use the tool, not the price tag of the sensor.
Gear is Secondary
People always ask, "What camera do you use?" My answer? The one you have with you. My Nikon Z8 is my powerhouse, but the principles of lighting, composition, and storytelling remain the same whether I am holding a high-end lens or my phone. If you are learning, focus on these fundamentals instead of worrying about the latest body update.
