This video shows how I covered up a faded, old tattoo on the forearm. I used a large, beautifully shaded feather design to completely hide the previous ink.
Here, I performed a cover-up on an old hand tattoo. A new, shaded lotus flower now sits in its place, providing a clean and fresh look.

About Cover-ups and Redesigns
Covering a tattoo is not just about drawing over it. I assess the original ink density first to see if it needs a heavy blackwork piece like a phoenix or if a detailed organic design like a lotus will do the trick. My approach focuses on making the old design disappear completely while ensuring the new art flows naturally with your skin, rather than just forcing a shape over the top.
How I Approach Cover-Ups
When you come to my studio in Goregaon with an old tattoo, the first step is an assessment. Not all ink is the same. I look at how deep the original ink sits and how much it has faded. If the old tattoo is very dark or bold, we need to plan a new design that uses heavy blackwork or dense shading to ensure zero visibility of the previous layer.
For lighter tattoos, we have more flexibility. We can use complex organic shapes like mandalas or intricate floral patterns to distract the eye and mask the old lines. I often freehand draw directly on your skin with a marker to test how the new design sits over the old one, ensuring the flow is right before we ever pick up the needle.
Redesigns and Touch-Ups
Sometimes you do not need to hide a tattoo; you just need to bring it back to life. Redesigns are perfect for tattoos that have lost their edge. If your linework has blurred or your shading has gone flat, I can sharpen the borders and add new depth using modern grey wash techniques. This is common for older memorial tattoos or names that were done years ago.

Cover-ups usually require more patience than a fresh tattoo. Because we are working with existing pigment, the skin can be more sensitive, and the session might take longer to ensure full coverage. I always use professional, sterilized gear and provide clear aftercare instructions to help the skin heal properly.
