Inside the Fine Arts Gurukul Studio
Step inside our Jayanagar studio, where art is a practice, not just a weekend hobby. Here, the traditional Gurukul method meets modern creative expression.
We take learning beyond the studio walls. An outdoor sketching session allows this young artist to connect with her environment, sharpening her observation skills and finding new subjects for her art.
A look inside a Junior Pencil and Chai class shows the focused, interactive learning environment we cultivate. Our teachers provide personal attention to each child, guiding their hand and nurturing their unique artistic voice.
This is a glimpse of a week at Fine Arts Gurukul. From dedicated sessions for our junior artists to intense watercolor studies for advanced students, our space is always alive with creative exploration.
Namaskara Bengaluru. The entrance to our Gurukul, marked by this powerful tiger artwork, welcomes students into a space dedicated to inspiring the artist within. The environment itself is part of the learning.
About Inside the Gurukul
Our studio in Jayanagar is not a typical classroom. We follow a strict no-eraser policy during sketching sessions. It sounds daunting, but it forces students to embrace their strokes, mistakes and all, rather than hiding them. This simple rule builds confidence and deeper observation skills, because you learn to trust the lines you put down, even the wrong ones.
The Environment We designed our space to remove the noise of the outside world. With traditional wooden seating and a naturally ventilated studio, it is a quiet pocket in Bengaluru where children and adults can focus entirely on their work.
The Gurukul Method Every session starts with an invocation. This is not just a ritual, as it sets the mental tone for sadhana, which is disciplined practice. Whether it is our Monthly Foundation Art Program or intensive seasonal camps, we hold the same standards for everyone.
Why the No-Parents Rule We often get asked why parents are not allowed inside during class. Art is an act of vulnerability. When a child learns in an environment free from expectation, and free from the pressure of competition, they explore colors and perspectives they would not otherwise touch. We do not teach what a parent wants; we teach what an artist needs.
Technical Focus From anatomy and perspective to traditional Indian folk forms like Kalamkari, our curriculum is fixed. We believe in the expert's role to guide, not the student's role to direct. Come join us if you are ready to treat art as a journey rather than a trophy hunt.
