Our Guiding Principles and Philosophy
At Fine Arts Gurukul, we treat art as a sadhana, not a hobby. Our principles ensure that every student focuses on the process of creation, not just the final product.
We are direct about who we are. Our classes begin with an invocation, we follow our expert curriculum without deviation, and we do not allow parents in the classroom to maintain a sacred learning space.
Our Guru explains why we teach students to sketch without an eraser. This practice builds confidence and teaches that every line has a purpose in the process of creation, turning perceived mistakes into learning opportunities.
Our philosophy is guided by the wisdom of saints like Basavanna. "Do not steal, do not kill, do not lie" is not just a saying for us; it is the foundation of inner and outer purity that we instill in our students' art and life.
About Our Guiding Principles
When you step into our Jayanagar studio, you will notice something different: our students rarely use erasers. We teach sketching as an act of observation, where every line—even the ones you might call a mistake—is part of your learning journey. This disciplined approach builds the steady hand and critical eye that define a true artist.
Art as Sadhana
We operate as a modern Gurukul. For us, art education is not a transactional service but a sacred practice. We begin every single session with a Sanskrit invocation to clear the mind and set an intention. This environment is built for focus, which is why parents are not permitted inside the classroom. We need students to form a direct connection with their art, free from external pressure or distraction.
The Discipline of No Erasers
Our students are trained to embrace their strokes. We intentionally restrict the use of erasers during sketching sessions. The eraser is a crutch that hides your process. By leaving your initial strokes visible, you learn to analyze your own mistakes, understand proportion, and develop rhythm. You will see your improvement in the development of your own lines, not by rubbing them away. As our guru Kamath ji says, let the wrong lines be.
Values Over Competition
We do not hold art competitions. We do not teach to please parents; we teach to build artists. Our foundation is rooted in the virtues of Basavanna, emphasizing that purity in art comes from purity in heart. Whether you are joining our foundation sketching classes or our seasonal workshops, expect an honest environment where your progress is measured by your growth, not by how fast you finish a project.
