Strength & Flexibility Training for Gymnasts
The secret to every great gymnast isn't just talent; it is a solid base. We focus on building the core strength and range of motion that turns simple movements into powerful routines.
A look at our "Flexible Day" training, where gymnasts work together on back bridge chains to improve spinal flexibility and strength.
A gymnast demonstrates incredible flexibility with a standing split stretch using the wall bars, a key exercise for developing the range of motion needed for advanced skills.
Our gymnasts work on their flexibility with various split stretches using foam rollers and other equipment for support and deeper stretching.
Strength training is crucial. This video shows a young gymnast performing a challenging strength exercise to build the power needed for advanced tumbling and apparatus work.
Core conditioning in action. A young gymnast uses the wall bars to perform leg lifts, an essential exercise for building the core strength that powers every gymnastic move.

About The Foundation: Strength & Flexibility
We do not just ask our students to stretch; we teach them the physics behind why it helps. Our Sunday Flexible Day is a highlight because it allows us to break away from competitive routines and focus entirely on deep tissue work, conditioning circuits, and partner-assisted drills that you cannot always cover in a high-intensity class.
Building a gymnast starts with what happens before they step onto the high bar or the balance beam. Strength and flexibility training are the unglamorous, repetitive foundation that prevents injuries and creates the power required for advanced apparatus work.
Our Training Approach
We move away from static, boring stretches. Our sessions incorporate:
- Active Conditioning: Utilizing wall bars, foam blocks, and resistance work to engage muscles through their full range of motion.
- Partner-Assisted Stretching: Working in pairs helps our students push safely past their limits, building the trust and camaraderie that defines our Elite Family.
- Core Stability: Every flip and tumble requires a rigid core. We integrate rope climbs, leg lifts, and compression circuits into every session to ensure that strength is never the limiting factor.
Why Sundays Matter
We dedicated our Flexible Day to this craft because it is often overlooked in mainstream fitness. It is not just about the splits; it is about body control. Whether you are a toddler in our Tiny Tumblers program or a teen aiming for state-level competitions in Artistic Gymnastics, this conditioning is the bridge between wanting to perform a skill and actually mastering it. We focus on proper alignment and form, using foam pits and crash mats to ensure everyone stays safe while pushing for progress.
