Playing for a massive crowd requires more than just a playlist; it requires expert crowd pacing and technical redundancy. My setup for large-scale events includes synchronized audio-visual cues and live percussion loops that ensure the energy stays consistent from the first track to the final encore, whether you are hosting an open-air festival or a stadium-level concert.
Managing the sound for large-scale events like the New Year's Eve concert at The Lalit Ashok or the KCC Zee TV tournament at Chinnaswamy Stadium is entirely different from a standard club set. The acoustics of open-air festivals or large halls require specific preparation to ensure the music hits every corner of the venue.
My Approach to Large Events
- Technical Readiness: Large venues demand a professional PA system with subwoofers and specific audio inputs for my live percussionists. I work closely with venue sound engineers to ensure my console integrates perfectly, preventing sound drops and technical glitches.
- Crowd Pacing: When you have 5000+ people, you cannot rely on a generic mix. I read the floor constantly, adjusting the BPM (beats per minute) to keep the energy rising steadily. This is particularly crucial for events like Dandiya Nights, where the tempo must match the traditional rhythm of the sticks.
- Live Fusion Integration: For festivals, a standard DJ set often feels flat. I bring my 'Taala Beats' setup, adding a live Dhol or Western Drummer. This creates a visual and auditory spectacle that works even in the furthest rows of a large stadium.
