I believe transition spaces—the foyer, the kitchen corner, the passageway—are where a home’s personality truly settles. I design these functional zones to be just as expressive as your living room, turning everyday corners into storytelling moments.

For the Bhanushali residence, I transformed the building's lift lobby into a personal foyer. By painting over existing panels and adding a refurbished console and vintage mirror from the client's previous home, I created a welcoming space that feels both new and familiar.

Another view of the refurbished foyer, showcasing how vintage art and vibrant blue chairs were reused to add personality. I love giving beloved pieces a new life, making each project sustainable and filled with personal history.

In this Worli residence, I used my favorite black and white checkered flooring to create a classic foyer. Instead of a typical console, I sourced a stunning grey oriental wedding cabinet that cleverly houses a coffee and snack station for the family.

This kitchenette was designed as a special baking nook for the younger sister of the family. The open design offers sea views, while retro Smeg appliances and a handcrafted bone inlay table create a beautiful fusion of modern, vintage, and Indian artistry.

Inspired by my travels in Morocco, these wooden salon doors paired with a green ceramic 'jali' create a distinctive passage. The design allows for ventilation and creates a beautiful play of light and shadow, adding an exotic touch to the home.

This versatile family room features large sliding doors made from old Portuguese-Goan shell panels. This not only adds a piece of cultural heritage to the home but also allows natural light to filter through, creating a bright and soulful space for relaxation.

About Functional Artistry: Foyers, Kitchens & Unique Nooks

Most people overlook the lift lobby or the kitchen wall, but that is a mistake. I often use these transitions to test bold combinations, like black and white checkerboard flooring or upcycled antique cabinets, because these smaller footprints are the perfect place to experiment without overwhelming the entire house.
