Designing Storied Commercial and Public Spaces
I believe commercial environments should command respect while keeping their human soul alive. Whether I am crafting a corporate office or restoring a government landmark, my approach balances historic legacy with modern, functional needs.
In the founder's cabin of the Maddock office, we blended antique finds with personal history. The centerpiece is a magnificent 8-foot antique desk, complemented by the founder's very first office chair, which we retained for sentimental value. The space is a narrative of the company's journey.
We transformed a corner of the founder's cabin into this cozy reading nook. The 10-foot-high bookcase is a refurbished antique medicine cabinet from Jodhpur, which we had to crane up seven storeys to install. It now holds books, awards, and curios collected over the years.
It is a privilege to be entrusted with renovating a landmark of governance and history. Here I am with Hon. Speaker sir Rahul Narwekar, who guided and trusted me with the phased renovation of Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai, a project over two years in the making.
Presenting the design vision for the Vidhan Bhavan renovation to Maharashtra's leadership. Restoring a space so deeply rooted in history while aligning it with the future is a rare honor. My gratitude to the Hon. Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, and Chairman for their belief in our vision.
A moment of gratitude with Hon. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The opportunity to lead the renovation of Vidhan Bhavan and design the chambers of our state's leaders has been a landmark journey in blending legacy with modern, functional design.
2022 was a year of immense change and growth, culminating in the special project of renovating the Vidhan Bhavan, Maharashtra's State Assembly in Mumbai. This video is a snapshot of a whirlwind year, from sourcing trips across cities to designing in the country's tallest towers.
About Storied Commercial & Public Spaces
When I work on a commercial office, I don't just furnish a lobby; I curate an identity. For projects like the Maddock office, it meant craning a massive, 10-foot vintage medicine cabinet seven storeys up to create a reading nook that felt deeply personal. It is these logistical challenges combined with the warmth of reclaimed materials that transform a standard workspace into a narrative of your company's journey.
Commercial spaces often suffer from sterility, but I design offices to feel like extensions of the human experience. Whether I am breathing new life into a historic legislative landmark like the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai or crafting an intimate executive cabin for production houses, my focus remains on legacy.
For professional environments, I avoid the trend of glass-and-steel monotony. Instead, I bring in reclaimed teak wood, antique furniture, and handcrafted details that ground the space. When designing the Maddock office, the objective was to showcase the company's evolution. We used the founder's original chair alongside an 8-foot antique desk to bridge the past and the present. It is about creating a setting where business happens, but where you also feel a sense of belonging.
Renovating landmarks like the Vidhan Bhavan requires a profound respect for the existing structure. It is a phased, delicate process of modernizing functionality while preserving the architectural integrity of a space that has witnessed history. This is not about demolition; it is about sensitive restoration.
If you are looking to renovate your office, I handle everything from structural reconfiguration to sourcing unique vintage accents. Whether it is converting a dull corporate hall into a cinematic entrance or sourcing antique bookcases that require specialized logistics, my team ensures the execution is as thoughtful as the concept.
