Design Inspiration from Global Travels
Travel is my constant muse. From the symmetry of Parisian streets to the vibrant textures of Moroccan souks, every journey informs how I shape spaces.
Walking through Paris, I am always captivated by the perfect symmetry and grandeur of its architecture. This colonnade, with its repeating columns and magnificent chandeliers, is a beautiful example of timeless design. These are the moments that fuel my creativity long after I've returned home.
Paris is a city that never fails to inspire. The light, the history, the sheer elegance of the streets. Travel is essential to my creative process, and every trip, whether to a glamorous city or a small town, offers new perspectives that I bring back to my design work.
Traveling through Spain and Portugal, I am reminded that great design stands the test of time. The untouched architecture, with its grand doorways and intricate ironwork, tells a story of centuries. It's a powerful reminder to let history breathe through the modern spaces I create.
Morocco had been on my bucket list forever, and its vibrant culture did not disappoint. The famous blue city of Chefchaouen is a dream, with its endless patterns, textures, and shades of blue. This country's art draws from so many cultures, blending them into something uniquely its own.
The Jardin Majorelle in Morocco is a masterclass in color. The intense cobalt blue, set against the greens of the cacti and the light blue of the fountain, is simply breathtaking. It's a perfect example of how bold color choices can create a truly unforgettable and therapeutic space.
The beauty of Moroccan design is in the details. This arched doorway, with its intricate tile work, carved wood, and traditional metal studs, is a work of art in itself. It’s this level of craftsmanship and historical detail that I seek to honor in my own projects.
I am obsessed with the vibrant, handcrafted ceramics of Turkey. Dating back thousands of years, this pottery is an unmatched blend of history, quality, and color. I love incorporating unique, colorful pieces like these into my designs to add a layer of soul and story.
About Inspiration From Around the World
It is rarely just about how an item looks. It is about the material, the history of its making, and whether it can handle the practical needs of a room. I often work with local karigars to adapt these global influences, ensuring the final finish feels authentic rather than copied.
My design process starts long before I ever sketch a plan. It begins with observing how different cultures handle light, storage, and social spaces. When I walk through the colonnades of Paris or study the ironwork in Spain, I am not just looking for a pretty picture. I am looking for lessons in longevity and harmony that I can translate into your home or office.
Integrating Global Aesthetics Locally
Bringing a piece of Turkey or Morocco into a Mumbai apartment requires nuance. A vibrant ceramic piece or a deep, cobalt blue fountain works because it is anchored by a considered context. In my practice, this often means:
- Material Adaptation: Using traditional wabi sabi plaster textures to mimic the cooling effects of historical Mediterranean homes.
- Artisan Collaboration: Working with local karigars to recreate the spirit of the ironwork or tile patterns I have documented on my travels, ensuring the craft stays alive and relevant.
- Functional Heritage: Restoring vintage furniture, like Jodhpur cabinets, to serve modern storage needs in a professional office environment.
The Philosophy of Place
Design should not feel like a showroom catalog. It should feel like a diary of where you have been and what you value. Whether it is incorporating an antique chandelier into a clinic waiting area or commissioning a mural that references a specific travel memory, my goal is to strip away the stiff, generic layers of modern construction. We create spaces that breathe, settle, and age gracefully, much like the historic sites that continue to inspire my work.
