Global Design Inspiration for Modern Indian Homes
Every home I design has a story, often sparked by a cobblestone street in Paris or a quiet moment in a Bruges gallery. Travel is not just a getaway for me; it is the laboratory where I refine my sense of light, texture, and spatial poetry.
A postcard from Europe. Pausing at charming cafés like this one, with its mint green walls and classic wooden furniture, inspires me to create cozy, inviting spaces in my own projects.
Wandering through the cobblestone streets of Montmartre in Paris. The timeless charm of cafes like Au Cadet de Gascogne, with their iconic red awnings, is a constant source of inspiration for creating spaces with soul.
The facade of "Le Secret des Artistes" in a quaint European town. The textured walls, rustic shutters, and charming signage are the kinds of thoughtful details that add character and tell a story.
Visiting the Perrotin gallery in Paris to witness the incredible work of British sculptor Lynn Chadwick. His mastery of form and imagination is a profound reminder of the power of art to transform a space.
Lynn Chadwick's groundbreaking sculptures, which blend geometric shapes with living forms. This exhibition was a rare glimpse into his creative process and a huge source of inspiration.
At the "Encounters" exhibition at the Belfort Museum in Bruges. The way these powerful, textured artworks were displayed against clean white walls in a historic, rustic building was a captivating experience.
A striking sculpture from the "Encounters" exhibition. Art doesn’t come with instructions; it’s an experience waiting to happen, much like the process of designing a truly personal space.
Another piece from the Bruges exhibition that felt deeply personal. The interaction between the sculpture and the vast white wall creates a powerful emotional narrative.
A glimpse of the gallery space at the Belfort Museum. The contrast between the contemporary art and the ancient wooden ceiling beams is a beautiful example of how old and new can coexist harmoniously.
About Inspiration from Around the World
I do not pull ideas from a catalogue. When we work together, I take the specific textures of a Parisian cafe or the raw, sculptural rhythm of a museum layout and translate that into the living room of your Mumbai apartment. It is about taking that global feeling and making it liveable, functional, and deeply personal to your daily routine.
Travel teaches me how to see space differently. It is rarely about mimicking a Parisian cafe or a historic museum in Bruges exactly as it appears. Instead, it is about extracting the feeling of those places—the way light filters through a window, the tactile pleasure of rough stone against smooth wood, or the way art commands a room.
Designing with a Global Perspective
When I approach residential design, I look for these underlying rhythms. For a Mumbai apartment, this might mean installing floor-to-ceiling glass to bring in nature, much like a European conservatory, or selecting a material palette of warm walnut and marble that echoes the comfort of a classic Italian library. It is about creating a dialogue between the architecture and the memories you want to build at home.
Art as a Spatial Anchor
Art is not an afterthought in my projects; it is often the starting point. Just as a sculpture in a gallery forces you to pause and observe, a well-placed piece of art in your home can define the flow of a room. I help clients integrate their own collections, ensuring that the lighting, wall texture, and furniture layout serve to highlight these pieces rather than compete with them.
Practical Application
This global perspective is grounded in technical execution. Whether we are planning the layout of a villa or renovating a clinic, I focus on the 'why' behind every choice. We look at:
- Spatial Flow: How a room feels when you walk in.
- Materiality: Using raw, honest materials that age gracefully.
- Light Dynamics: Maximizing natural light to shift the mood from morning to evening.
My goal is to create a home that feels traveled yet grounded, sophisticated yet incredibly comfortable.
