Design Inspiration and Behind the Scenes
A look behind the curtain at the textures, travels, and quiet moments that shape our design language.
It gives me immense happiness to see a space I designed, like The Lovefools restaurant, thriving with people celebrating and enjoying the vibe. This moody corner with vintage art captures the romantic, soulful atmosphere we created.
A quick journey through the layers, moods, and meanings of a home I designed in Calcutta. From the chaos of the city to the calm of the interiors, this is a glimpse of what it takes to create a space with soul.
I'm the most awkward poser, but my friend Kiran makes it so easy. Here's a shot he took of me while we were walking and chatting through the city.
A heartwarming glimpse of a home we created, where every door and alley reveals a new detail and a piece of its soul. It's a little green oasis filled with personal touches and beautiful moments.
A few inspiring moments from the 3-Day Design Festival in Copenhagen. Travel is a huge source of inspiration for me, and this trip was a reminder to keep it real, in design and in life.
In this podcast snippet, I talk about my roots as an army kid. Growing up all over the country gave me my first sense of design and observation, from the immaculate gardens to the attention to detail in every army mess.
A small pooja corner in my studio, decorated for Dassera. The garlands were made by my lovely helper Sumina from flowers in our garden. It’s a reminder of the bonds we find and the love that surrounds us.
The reality of a client meeting. First comes the happiness and excitement of the design, and then comes the discussion about costs! It's all part of the fun and collaborative process.
About Additional Work
Real design is not just the final reveal. It is the honest work that happens when we sit down to talk about costs, constraints, and the raw ideas that will actually make a house feel like your home.
People often see the finished room. They see the lighting, the textures, and the art on the wall. But the life of a project is in the details you do not see in a glossy magazine. It is the three days at a design festival in Copenhagen that spark a new way to use light. It is the early morning conversation with a team member about how to balance a budget without losing the character of a space.
Growing up as an army kid, I learned to observe. I noticed how an army mess garden was kept, how tables were set, and how a space felt when it was cared for. That training never left me. Today, when I work on a home, I look for that same level of care. Whether it is a pooja corner decorated with flowers from our own garden or a restaurant space that needs to feel romantic yet functional, the approach is the same. It is personal.
We do not follow formulas. We follow the rhythm of the building and the people who live in it. From the mitti walls of our studio to heritage homes we restore across India, our process is a dialogue. We sit, we sketch, we talk about the tough stuff like budgets, and we build something that is meant to last. If you want a space that reflects who you are rather than what is trending, let us talk.
Richa Bahl
I approach every project with the belief that a home should feel like an embrace. My work is rooted in my own journey and the stories of the people I work with, focusing on texture, memory, and light. If you are looking for someone to help you find the soul of your space, I would love to connect.
