Meditative Geometric Patterns: Grid Art Workshops in Mumbai
There is a quiet magic in the repetition of lines. For me, geometric art is not just about drawing, it is a way to find stillness when the Mumbai noise gets a bit too much.
Another day, another pattern. Watch how a complex geometric design is built from a simple hexagonal grid, using blue and silver pens.
For the longest time, I was planning to try a pattern in a grid book. This video shows my first attempt, creating a colorful design with simple shapes.
The last in a geometric series, this video shows a beautiful pattern created with black and gold pens, resulting in an elegant and classic design.
Unlocking the hidden patterns of my creativity. This video shows a black and green design coming to life on a grid, a perfect example of meditative drawing.
One day at a time. This geometric pattern uses a vibrant red and yellow, showing how color can completely transform a simple repeating shape.
Another day, another geometric design. This piece uses a fun combination of yellow, blue, and red, creating a playful and energetic pattern.
The third in a series, this video shows a geometric pattern with a 3D-like effect, using purple, green, and red.
About this collection
You do not need to be a skilled artist to start these patterns. I exclusively use standard 5mm grid notebooks for all my designs, as the grid acts as a natural guide that removes the pressure of freehand drawing. Once you understand the basic construction of a few hexagonal or square grids, the symmetry takes over, and the process becomes a form of moving meditation that anyone can practice.
Why Geometric Patterns?
Unlike free-flowing mandalas, geometric patterns rely on strict structure and repetition. This mathematical precision is exactly why it is so effective for clearing the mind. When you focus on connecting points on a grid, your brain naturally shifts into a flow state, silencing the 'to-do list' thoughts that usually buzz in the background.
My Approach to Teaching
My workshops are designed to break down these complex-looking designs into tiny, manageable steps. We start with:
- Grid Mastery: Learning how to read a standard grid notebook to create perfect symmetry.
- Pattern Construction: Building up shapes like stars, weaves, and 3D illusions using simple fineliners.
- Color Integration: Adding depth with a limited palette, which prevents the overwhelm that comes with using too many colors.
Is This For You?
If you have never picked up a pen for art, this is the best place to start. Because the grid does the heavy lifting, you don't need a steady hand or a 'natural talent' for drawing. Whether you join my in-person sessions in Mumbai or follow along with my online guides, the goal remains the same: to leave the session feeling lighter and a little more centered. Let’s sit together, breathe, and draw some lines.
Varsha
Hey, I’m Varsha. I treat my art as a quiet conversation with myself, especially when life in Mumbai gets a bit too noisy. My workshops are designed to help you find that same sense of calm, whether you are a complete beginner or just looking to pick up a new mindful hobby.
