Strength & Conditioning for Runners
To get faster and more resilient, you need a powerful foundation. I blend CrossFit-inspired strength training with your running routine to build stability, improve form, and keep you injury-free.
This is me performing a set of heavy front squats at 105 kg. Exercises like this build serious leg strength, core stability, and mental fortitude, all of which translate directly to better performance and endurance on the run.
About Strength & Conditioning
Strength training for runners isn't about hypertrophy; it's about durability. By focusing on compound movements like the front squat, we strengthen your core and posterior chain—the exact muscles that fatigue during those last few kilometers. This isn't just gym time; it is specific, targeted work designed to stabilize your joints and significantly improve your running economy.
Many runners avoid the weight room, fearing they will get bulky and slow. That is a mistake. Your legs are the engine, but your core and glutes act as the transmission. If that transmission is weak, you lose energy with every foot strike.
Why I Focus on Strength
In my sessions—whether we are at CrossFit 9one in Koramangala or DIRE CROSSFIT in Rajouri Garden—I prioritize movements that translate to real-world performance. You will see me performing heavy front squats in the gallery, not for show, but because they build the leg strength and mental fortitude required to push through the wall in a 10k race.
My Approach
- Mechanics First: Before we load the bar, we fix your movement patterns.
- Specific Adaptations: We don't do random bodybuilding. We select exercises that correct common running imbalances, such as weak hips or poor ankle mobility.
- Consistency: You don't need five hours a day. You need a program that is sustainable and fits around your mileage.
If you want to train for an event, we will integrate these strength days around your runs so you don't burn out. My goal is to get you across the finish line feeling stronger, not just faster.
