Artist Residency Program for Ceramic Artists

byClay StationStudio at Koramangala, BengaluruView full gallery

Our residency provides the dedicated studio space, professional mentorship, and exhibition platform you need to transition from student to independent ceramic artist.

This is the culmination of our residency program: a professional artist showcase. We provide the platform for our resident artists to present their body of work, share their stories, and connect with the art community in Bengaluru.

Here is a look into the creative process of our resident artist, Ishita. The residency provides the time and space to move from initial sketches and small models to creating large scale ceramic sculptures, navigating the challenges and joys of working with clay.

Mentorship is a cornerstone of our residency. We facilitate invaluable sessions where artists receive direct feedback and guidance from established figures in the art world, like the incredible ceramicist Kate Malone, helping them refine their craft and expand their creative horizons.

From the initial spark of an idea to the final fired and glazed piece, this is the result of our six month residency. This video showcases the stunning and diverse ceramic art created by our artists, ready for their debut exhibition.

Our residency program is designed to give you everything you need to focus on your art. This includes dedicated studio space, access to materials and firing, mentorship from senior artists, and a supportive community to grow with.

Meet Ishita, one of our resident artists. She shares her journey from sculpture to ceramics and what she hopes to achieve during her time at Clay Station, from scaling up her work to experimenting with new glazes and techniques.

The artist showcase is more than an exhibition; it's a space for connection. Here, artists, mentors, and art lovers engage in meaningful conversations, sharing insights and celebrating the journey of creation together.

About this collection

The transition from hobbyist to professional artist requires more than just access to a wheel. We structure our residency to guide you through the technical challenges of scale, kiln management, and body development, ensuring your work is exhibition-ready. You will have full access to our Koramangala studio, ongoing feedback from senior ceramicists, and a final showcase at venues like Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath to present your completed body of work.

Whether you are looking for our fully sponsored fellowship or the flexibility of our self-funded independent residency, the goal remains the same: developing your unique artistic voice.

The Mentorship Process

We avoid vague encouragement. You will receive technical feedback on glaze chemistry, firing schedules, and structural integrity. Our senior artists work with you on refining your maquettes, helping you navigate the pitfalls of large-scale sculpture and complex forming techniques.

Infrastructure and Support

Our Koramangala studio offers:

  • Unlimited access to Shimpo wheels and slab rollers.
  • Material support, including up to 60kg of clay and consistent kiln loads (Cone 6).
  • Dedicated shelf space for your work-in-progress.

The Debut Showcase

We treat the exhibition phase with the same rigor as the making phase. We provide the platform, marketing, and professional support required for a debut show. This is your opportunity to talk to visitors about your process and see how your work resonates with the Bengaluru art community.

Residency Tiers

  • Fellowship Residency: A six-month program that includes a monthly stipend, full tuition waiver, and professional exhibition support. This is designed for artists ready to dedicate themselves fully to their craft.
  • Self-Funded Residency: Perfect for artists who need the studio infrastructure, firing access, and community without the time commitment of a full fellowship.

If you have 2 to 4 years of pottery experience and are looking to push your work to the next level, let us discuss how you can fit into our current studio cycle.
