From Blank Page to Hand-Drawn Portrait
Art is not just the final result. It starts with a simple grid and a pencil. Here is how I map out your photos to make them look real on paper.
This is the initial line art for my drawing of Lord Rama. I use a grid system for complex pieces like this to ensure every intricate detail of the jewelry and features is perfectly proportioned.
The outline stage for my portrait of actress Sai Pallavi. Before I begin shading, I create a clean and accurate line drawing to serve as the foundation for the final piece.
The beginning of my Cristiano Ronaldo portrait. This image shows the basic outline sketch, which is the first and most crucial step in achieving a realistic likeness.
A pencil sketch of the great warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This piece shows the detailed shading and texture work involved in creating historical portraits.
About From Blank Page to Artwork
I use the grid method for every portrait, which helps me map out your facial features with high accuracy before I even start shading. This step is what makes a sketch look like the actual person in your photo, rather than just a generic drawing. When you send me a clear image, this foundation ensures the eyes, nose, and jawline are captured exactly as they should be.
Getting the Likeness Right
Many people ask why I spend so much time on the initial outline. The truth is, if the lines are wrong, the shading won't save it. Whether I am drawing a legend like Appu sir or your family member, I treat the grid as the foundation of the drawing. It is about patience.
My Process
- The Grid: Once you send a clear photo, I break it down into squares. This gives me a map to follow.
- The Sketch: I work with graphite pencils, moving from light HB lines to deep 8B tones for the shadows. This is where I struggle with the paper to get the smile or that specific look in the eyes just right.
- The Proof: I don't just finish it and ship it. I send you a digital update halfway through so you can see the drawing as it happens. This way, we are both happy with the direction before I move to the final details.
- Protection: Once done, I coat the work with a fixative spray to stop it from smudging or yellowing over time.
If you have a special photo, let's talk about turning it into a piece you can keep forever.
