Behind the Art: My Sketching & Creative Process
Ever wonder how a random idea turns into a portrait you keep forever? Here is a peek inside my sketchbook and digital workspace, where your memories start taking shape.
A quick glimpse of my digital drawing setup. This video shows how I use my graphics tablet and pen to create a detailed character portrait from scratch.
Watch my hands at work as I fill my sketchbook with various pen and ink drawings. This is how I practice and explore new ideas for characters and scenes.
The pure joy of a child's laughter, captured in a quick and expressive pen sketch in my notebook. I love the raw energy of ink on paper.
A character turnaround sheet I sketched in my book. This is an important step in character design to understand how they look from all angles.
Some character practice sketches done with a pencil. Sketching regularly helps me hone my skills in capturing different faces and expressions.
A detailed portrait created entirely with pencil. This traditional medium allows for soft shading and a very classic, realistic feel.
A pencil portrait sketch of a man with a beard. I focused on the texture of the hair and the friendly expression in his eyes.
About this collection
Whether it starts as a rough pencil doodle in my notebook or a quick line sketch on my tablet, every piece begins the same way: with your story. I do not just trace photos; I break down the structure, study the expressions, and layer the color to make sure the final file feels like you. If you have a specific scene or theme in mind, send me the concept, and let us sketch out the first draft together.
How I Sketch Your Story
My process is less about standard filters and more about manual artistry. Here is how I bring your ideas to life:
- From Paper to Pixel: Many of my best compositions start as humble pen-and-ink sketches. I use this phase to map out composition, especially for family portraits or movie-themed scenes where multiple elements need to fit just right.
- Character Design: For caricatures, I create turnarounds to understand your features. It is not just about a "big head"; it is about capturing that specific smile, beard texture, or the way you wear your glasses.
- Digital Crafting: Once the draft is approved, I move to my tablet. I build the illustration layer by layer—line art, flat colors, and finally, the highlights and shading that add depth.
- Technical Specifications: I deliver high-resolution files (300 DPI) that are print-ready for A3 or A2 sizes. Whether you want a canvas print for your wall or a digital file for an invite, the art is scaled for clarity.
- Your Inputs Matter: The magic happens when you share details. Tell me about the setting, the outfits, or even an inside joke you want hidden in the background. My goal is to deliver a snehasammanam (gift of love) that feels personal, not mass-produced.
Sreeni
Hi, I am Sreeni. I moved from Kerala to Bangalore, but my sketchbook came with me. I treat every project as a *snehasammanam*—a gift of love—and I am happiest when I see that spark of joy in your eyes when the final artwork hits your inbox.
