About Summer Camp in Action
The most important part of this camp is the internal Swiss-League tournament we run at the end. It isn't just about winning games, it teaches your child how to handle the clock, follow the touch-move rule, and manage the pressure of competitive play in a real environment before they ever step into an external tournament.
Beyond the Basics: What 20 Hours of Coaching Actually Covers
Many summer activities for kids are just about keeping them busy. We take a different approach. Over these 10 days, we run a rigorous 20-hour program designed to move students from basic piece movement to actual game strategy. Our FIDE-rated coaches don't just lecture; they use a hybrid approach of digital analysis on large screens combined with traditional board demonstrations to ensure concepts stick.
The Curriculum Focus
We break down the complexity of chess into actionable parts for young minds:
- Opening Principles: Learning how to control the center from the first move.
- Tactical Motifs: Mastering pins, skewers, and forks to gain material advantage.
- Endgame Theory: How to convert an advantage into a win when the board is nearly empty.
- Clock Management: Understanding how to balance time under pressure, a skill that translates to academic tests and real-life problem solving.
A Real-World Environment
We keep our batches small, typically 10 to 15 students, to ensure your child gets individual correction. We use professional-grade vinyl boards and weighted pieces, not the cheap plastic sets often found in generic hobby classes. Our goal is to simulate a professional environment so that when your child eventually competes in state or national events, they aren't surprised by the rules or the pressure. By the end of the camp, they receive a course completion certificate, but more importantly, they walk away with a genuine understanding of how to plan two steps ahead.
