Be Their Voice: Advocacy & Awareness for Street Animals
Knowledge is the first step toward compassion. We work to demystify animal laws, advocate for coexistence, and ensure every street animal is treated with the dignity they deserve.
We raised our voices for the streeties of Delhi NCR, and the Supreme Court listened. This image marks a victory in our advocacy efforts, leading to a pan India policy on the humane treatment of stray dogs, including vaccination and feeding spaces.
Bangalore showed up in solidarity with the dogs of Delhi. This protest was part of a nationwide movement demanding compassionate and scientific solutions for managing community dog populations, rather than misguided panic.
Understanding the laws that protect our fur babies on the street is the first step to becoming their advocate. We collaborate with partners like Doggie Bazaar to spread awareness about animal rights in India.
Did you know it is a punishable offense to harm an animal? Under IPC Sections 428 and 429, acts of cruelty can lead to prison time and fines. Knowing the law is a powerful tool to protect the voiceless.
The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960 makes it illegal to harm or relocate street animals. Their territory is their home, and they are protected by law.
According to the Animal Birth Control Rules, community dogs cannot be permanently relocated. They can only be taken for sterilization and vaccination and must be returned to their original territory.
The Supreme Court of India has explicitly acknowledged that streets are the homes of community dogs. Rulings have repeatedly stated that cruelty towards them and relocation are not allowed.

Pepper the cat has a magical message for you: You will Adopt, NOT Shop. Choosing adoption helps fight the cruel breeding industry and gives a deserving shelter animal a home.
This is Pepper, a mesmerizing two year old cat who is currently at our shelter waiting for his forever home. He is ready to put you under his spell and become your new best friend.
About Be Their Voice: Advocacy & Awareness
Knowing the law is your most powerful tool to protect your neighborhood streeties. Whether you are dealing with a resident welfare association threatening to relocate dogs or simply trying to establish a peaceful feeding spot, understanding the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules 2023 is essential. Community dogs cannot be relocated; they are protected by law and deserve to remain in their original territory, safe, vaccinated, and fed.
Advocacy isn't just about protesting; it's about shifting mindsets in our Bengaluru neighborhoods. When you stand up for a street dog, you aren't just protecting one animal—you are setting a precedent for coexistence.
Knowing Your Rights
Many conflicts arise from misinformation. It is vital to know that:
- Relocation is illegal: Under the ABC Rules 2023 and various Supreme Court rulings, community dogs cannot be forcibly removed from their territory.
- Cruelty is punishable: IPC Sections 428 and 429 treat acts of animal cruelty as criminal offenses punishable by fines and imprisonment.
- Feeding is a right: Establishing a designated feeding spot, away from foot traffic, is a responsible way to ensure street animals are cared for without causing community friction.
Practical Coexistence
Advocacy starts with how we live. Simple, everyday actions save lives:
- Waste Management: Plastic containers often become traps for curious street dogs. Discard waste responsibly to prevent unnecessary injuries.
- Drive Slow: Our streets are their homes. Being mindful while driving prevents preventable accidents.
- Education: We partner with schools and community groups to teach compassion. If you want to transform your neighborhood's attitude toward street dogs, we offer premises audits and coexistence strategy planning to help resolve grievances and build a safer environment for everyone.
Change is possible when we stop viewing street animals as a nuisance and start seeing them as community members. If you need support with legal documentation or conflict resolution, we are here to help.
