Simple & Timeless Kids Portraits

When parents ask for simple portraits, they usually mean they want timeless photos that focus on the child, not the props. In my Whitefield and Dommasandra studios, I use clean, textured backdrops, like earthy jute, soft furs, or natural wood, to make sure the focus stays entirely on those tiny details. Whether it is a surprised glance, a shy smile, or the way they hold their hands, I want the image to speak to who they are.

Whether it is a toddler sitting in a rustic wooden wagon or a portrait against a soft backdrop, the goal is always comfort. I find that when we remove the elaborate costume setups, kids naturally settle in faster. We have plenty of time for them to explore the space, play with a sunflower, or just sit for a moment of quiet reflection.

What goes into these sessions:

• Personalised comfort: We move at your child’s pace. If they need a break, we take one.
• Texture and light: I prefer organic materials and soft, natural-looking studio lighting to create portraits that feel warm and inviting, not over-produced.
• Wardrobe tips: Since the background is minimal, I always suggest simple, solid-colored outfits or textures like linen or soft cotton that will not distract from their faces.
