Behind the Scenes: My Artist Sketchbook
Every digital piece starts as a simple pen sketch. This is where I experiment with expressions, character forms, and ideas before they hit the screen.
A character turnaround sheet from my sketchbook. I practice drawing characters from different angles to understand their form. This kind of foundational sketching is crucial for creating believable digital illustrations.
A page from my sketchbook filled with various pen sketches and character ideas. This is where I experiment with different faces, expressions, and styles before taking them to the digital screen.
A time-lapse of me filling a page in my sketchbook with doodles and portraits. This is my way of relaxing and letting my creativity flow, capturing little moments and faces from daily life.
About From My Sketchbook
When we start a custom portrait, I do not jump straight to the tablet. I use these sketchbook studies to map out your facial structure and expressions first. You can ask me to share a quick pencil draft during our process so we make sure the likeness is spot-on before I apply the final digital colors.
People often see the final, glossy digital invite and forget the hours of doodling that lead there. My sketchbook is my thinking space. Whether I am capturing a funny expression for a caricature or testing the composition for a wedding invite, this paper-and-pen stage is non-negotiable.
Why I start on paper
- Anatomy & Likeness: Digital tools are powerful, but pen on paper forces me to get the proportions right. It is the purest way to capture the real you in the portrait.
- Idea Testing: Before committing to a full digital painting, I doodle the concept to see if the theme works. If you want a specific movie scene or a unique pose, I sketch it first to ensure the vibe is right.
- The 'Aavesham' Factor: Every line is drawn with intention, reflecting the passion I have for character design.
When you hire me for a portrait, you are not just getting an automated filter. You are getting a piece of art that was conceptualized, sketched, and refined, ensuring your final file for WhatsApp or printing looks professional and truly personal.
