About Raksha Bandhan & Bhai Dooj

When I design for Rakhi, I love to move beyond traditional patterns. Many of you ask for the 'nok jhok' theme where I sketch a small brother-sister cartoon or include a quote that captures your specific bond. Because these portrait-style details take focus and fine-tip work, I usually need about an hour or more to get the faces right, so let me know in advance if you want a detailed story or a simple motif.

Raksha Bandhan is not just a festival for me; it is a chance to document the special bond between siblings through my art. I specialize in two main approaches for this festival. First, the 'Portrait and Story' style, which is perfect if you want to capture a specific memory, like a sister tying a rakhi or a funny moment you share with your brother. I use fine-tip cones for these to ensure the eyes and jewelry details are clear and sharp.

Then there is the 'Traditional Festive' style, which is great if you prefer something elegant for the puja. These designs focus on traditional Indian motifs—lotus flowers, peacocks, and intricate jaali (net) patterns—that look beautiful with traditional attire. I can also mix the two, adding names or festival greetings like 'Happy Raksha Bandhan' into a classic mandala or vine design.

Since I handle everything from quick Arabic strips for guests to elaborate storytelling portraits for sisters, the time required varies a lot. If you are planning to get mehandi for the whole family or a big Rakhi party, please tell me the number of people and the preferred design type beforehand. My mehandi mix is natural and chemical-free, ensuring a deep, rich stain that lasts through the celebrations. If you are looking for specific inspiration—like brother-sister cartoons or customized names—feel free to share a reference image with me when you message.
