About Goddess Saree Draping
Ensuring the saree stays neat on an idol while you perform your puja is tricky. I use specific anchoring techniques for the pleats so they stay crisp and symmetrical throughout the festival, regardless of the idol size or fabric weight.
Draping a saree for a deity, especially for festivals like Varamahalakshmi, is a sacred process. Unlike draping a person, an idol does not have a natural shape to hold the fabric, which makes the pleating mechanics critical. My service focuses on creating a stable foundation so that the heavy silk or Banarasi fabric does not slip or sag during the rituals.
I offer two main ways to help you with this. First, I can come to your home in Bangalore to perform the draping myself. I handle the pleats, the pallu, and the accessory placements like waist belts and jewelry, ensuring the idol looks traditional and elegant.
Second, I provide a pre-pleating service for your Goddess saree. If you prefer to drape the idol yourself but struggle with the pleating part, I can pre-pleat and box fold the saree for you. This means you can simply open the package, drape it over the idol, and it will fall into perfect, symmetrical pleats instantly. This is particularly popular for travel or when you are managing multiple tasks on the morning of a festival.
If you want to learn this skill, I also include deity draping in my workshops. Many of my students start by learning to drape themselves and then move on to learning how to style idols. We practice on mannequins and use different fabric types to understand how to handle silk, cotton, and net materials without damaging the fabric or the idol's finish. It is a rewarding skill that brings a lot of peace and joy to your festival preparations.
