Custom Portrait Art & Live Sketches in Bengaluru
Every face has a story. Whether it is a quick live sketch in a cafe or a detailed custom portrait for a loved one, I am here to capture the real you on paper.
I got stuck at a bus stop in the rain, so I decided to do some rapid sketching of the people waiting with me. It was a fun challenge and a great way to practice capturing expressions and postures quickly.
A beautiful day at Cubbon Park, where I painted my friends and me enjoying a picnic. It's a special thing to paint a memory as you're living it.
A quick, expressive sketch of a 'chetta' (older brother) from my Thrissur sketch stories. I love doing these character studies.
A sketch of an elephant from the Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur. While not a person, capturing the spirit of this gentle giant felt like a portrait.
Another sketch of the temple elephant in Thrissur. I used a brush pen to create bold lines and textures.
Sketching the Durga Pandal in Koramangala. I focused on capturing the crowd and the devotees, trying to convey the festive and spiritual atmosphere of the celebration.
Whenever artists go out, we can't help but see the world as a potential painting. This video shows us capturing portraits and scenes from life, finding inspiration everywhere.
This painting of boats in Thailand travelled all the way to a new friend in Seoul. It's amazing how art connects us across the world. A piece of my heart is now a memory for someone else.
About Portraits & People Studies
When you commission a portrait, I look for more than just a likeness. I focus on the posture, the quiet expression, or that one specific way you tilt your head. Whether it is a watercolor piece based on your favorite photo or a live sketch from a park, my goal is to create something that feels like you.
I treat every portrait as a collaboration. When we work together, I start by asking for the story behind the person or the moment you want to capture.
My process varies based on the medium you choose:
- Traditional (Watercolor & Gouache): I paint on high-quality 300 GSM cold-press paper. These have a texture and depth that digital prints just cannot replicate. I ship the original physical artwork directly to you from my Bangalore studio.
- Digital: If you prefer digital, I create custom illustrations on Procreate. These are high-resolution files perfect for printing or social media.
For all custom commissions, I include one pencil sketch layout for your approval before I add color. This ensures we are on the same page before the final work begins. From start to finish, the process takes about 7 to 14 days.
I also love live sketching. If you see me at Cubbon Park or a local cafe, you will likely find me capturing quick studies of people around me. There is something special about drawing in the moment—it is raw, honest, and full of life. If you have a specific idea in mind, or if you just want to see how I can turn a memory into art, let's talk.
Basit
I am Basit. I did not go to art school, but I learned everything by sketching real people in real moments. Whether it is a quiet portrait or a lively scene at a park, my art is all about the little details that make a person, well, them.
