Behind the Scenes: My Artistic Process
My art is not just meant to be seen, but felt. Here is how I turn blank walls into a conversation between architecture, light, and the stories you want to tell.
Design is never about decoration; it's about creating a meaningful experience. This video shows my collaborative process, working on-site with my team and discussing design elements to ensure the art is a seamless extension of the environment.
Inside our studio, art is never created at random. This video shows a typical day, collaborating with my team and clients, reviewing sketches, and ensuring every decision is intentional and aligned with the vision for the space.
A statement mural isn't just about the art, it's about where it lives. Here, I am sketching directly onto a client's wall, the very first step in mapping out the flow and composition of a new piece.
Every masterpiece follows three stages: planning, sculpting, and finishing. This video provides a quick overview of my process, showing glimpses of different projects at each stage, from an abstract canvas to a detailed floral mural.
The art you don't see is where the real story lies. This video shows the less glamorous but essential parts of the process, like building up the structural layers of a large abstract mural.
To create the branches for the cherry blossom mural, I use organic coconut coir rope, or sutli. Here, I am hammering the rope into place, creating a natural, flowing armature that will be covered with ceramic paste.
With the branches in place, I begin adding the delicate cherry blossoms. Each small flower is sculpted by hand and carefully applied to the wall, slowly building up the texture and detail of the mural.
The process of creating a mural often starts with a base of sculpted forms. Here, I am applying a coat of primer or sealant to a relief sculpture before the final colors are added.
This is the same process as seen in ID 39, showing the application of a base coat to a sculpted panel in my studio. This step ensures the longevity of the artwork and prepares the surface for painting.
I love the tactile nature of my work. Here I am, holding a freshly sculpted clay flower, a small component that will become part of a much larger, intricate mural.
About The Artistic Process: Behind the Scenes
Before a single grain of clay touches your wall, I sketch directly onto the surface to map the flow and composition. This step is not just about measurement; it is where I decide how natural light will hit the final sculpture to create depth. Whether I am using coconut coir rope (sutli) for structural reinforcement or layering ceramic paste, this initial phase ensures the mural becomes a permanent, seamless part of your architecture rather than a temporary addition.
Creating a 3D mural is a slow, deliberate journey that spans three distinct stages: planning, sculpting, and finishing.
Planning and Conversation
We begin with a dialogue about your space. I study the light, the volume, and the mood you want to evoke. This phase includes producing sketches and physical sample boards, allowing you to touch the textures before the real work begins. We identify whether your wall needs subtle textural treatments or high-relief 3D forms.
The Sculpting Phase
This is where the wall comes alive. Using natural materials like 'sadhuchi mati' (special clay) and marble powder, I build up layers by hand. For larger structures, I install an armature using coconut coir rope (sutli) to reinforce branches or complex shapes. This is not mass production; it is hand-modeling where every leaf, vine, or motif is applied individually to create a projection ranging from 0.5 to 3 inches from the surface. This ensures that every piece has a unique character.
Finishing for Longevity
The final stage is about durability. I seal the mural to protect it against sunlight and moisture, ensuring that the 3D depth remains intact for decades. Unlike paint, which fades, these natural ceramic and clay binders harden like stone. Whether you choose a nature-inspired floral motif or a detailed heritage relief, the result is a piece that does not just sit on your wall—it grows with your home.
Artistic Impressions
I am Hansa, and for 35 years, I have believed that art is a conversation. When I step into your space, I am not looking to decorate; I am looking to listen to what your walls want to say and then finding the right texture, clay, and shadow to give that story form.
