Exploring Clay: A Meditative Journey in Ceramics
I’ve always found my rhythm in texture and flow. Lately, that journey led me to the potter’s wheel—a new way to shape stories, one spin at a time.
After months of wanting to, I finally made it to a ceramic workshop. This is a sneak peek into my new creative journey with wheel throwing and glazing, a skill that has brought so much meditative joy.
From spinning clay to shaping stories. Here I am with some of my first ceramic creations, each one imperfect but full of heart and the memory of learning something new.
A collection of my hand-thrown and glazed ceramic bowls and pots. The process was full of struggles and smiles, but I slowly found my flow with the clay.
My new ceramic pieces, finding their place on the shelf next to other art that inspires me. The blue and white glaze patterns were a joy to experiment with.
A closer look at the beautiful imperfections of handmade ceramics. Each piece holds the story of its creation, from the wheel to the kiln.
About New Horizons: An Exploration in Clay
Working on the wheel demands a different kind of patience, a meditative focus that forces you to breathe through every mistake and find the balance in the clay. It is not about the final bowl or pot, but the meditative rhythm you find while your hands are covered in mud.
Transitioning from canvas to clay has taught me that the most beautiful things often come from letting go of control. When I work on texture paste, I build layers consciously. With ceramics, the clay itself decides the outcome. The spinning wheel has a mind of its own, and my job is to guide it rather than command it.
The Blue and White Palette
My recent ceramic pieces focus on fluid blue and white glaze patterns. These colors remind me of the underwater world, a recurring theme in my work that ties back to my early memories and the stillness I find in water. Each piece holds the memory of a struggle—the wobbling clay, the collapse, and the final centering.
Embracing Imperfection
I believe in the 'perfectly imperfect.' You might see a slight curve or a unique drip in my glazes that won't appear on factory-made sets. That is the soul of handmade art. It is the record of my hand, my breath, and my learning curve.
