I help children discover the magic in everyday waste. My workshops combine art and basic engineering, teaching students to build structures from scraps without using any glue.

A room buzzing with the energy of young architects and artists at work. This was the scene at Ascend International School, where students were deeply focused on turning simple, discarded materials into structural art.

I love guiding young minds and seeing their ideas take shape. This video captures the hands-on process at our sustainable art workshop, where students learned to build, balance, and create with focus and imagination.

Look closely at the hands of these young creators. They are carefully connecting and constructing, learning engineering principles through art without a single drop of glue. This is problem-solving in its most creative form.

Inspired by architecture, created by children. These sculptures are made entirely from straws and imagination, a testament to how sustainable thinking can unlock a world of creativity.

A wide view of our bustling workshop, filled with students exploring the possibilities of upcycled art. It was a day of collaboration, learning, and making our planet a little greener through creativity.

About Sustainable Art for Young Minds

I guide students to build intricate sculptures using only paper straws and floral foam foundations, entirely without glue. This process forces them to focus on structural balance and engineering principles rather than relying on adhesives, turning discarded items into tangible models. It is a messy, hands-on way to make them look at trash as raw material.

How We Make Art from Waste

My approach for schools, colleges, and NGOs centers on the concept of 'Best out of Waste.' I bring simple materials—mostly paper straws, bamboo sticks, and floral foam—and demonstrate how to use pinning and balance to construct stable sculptures.

We skip the glue entirely. This forces the kids to think about gravity, tension, and support, effectively turning an art hour into a lesson on structural thinking. I spend about 1.5 to 2 hours with each group, walking them through the engineering logic before letting them loose to build their own forms.

Why This Matters

  • Eco-Conscious Mindset: Children learn early that sustainability is about reimagining what we discard rather than just recycling.
  • Problem-Solving: Since they cannot glue pieces together, they have to figure out how to prop, pin, or balance their structures. This builds patience and critical thinking.
  • Accessible Creativity: No student needs prior art training. I bring all the materials, and the only rule is to explore how these pieces fit together.

These sessions are designed to fit perfectly into a standard school schedule. I handle the logistics, the setup, and the cleanup, so the school faculty can focus on supporting the students during the process. If your institution is looking for a way to break up the academic routine with something that engages the hands and the mind, this is it.

I am Shruti Jhaveri. For me, teaching art is about opening doors to a different way of seeing the world. My sessions with students are not about following instructions but about understanding how simple, discarded items can become beautiful structures.
