About Our Philosophy & Recognition
For us, architecture is not just about the final structure, but a long, meditative dialogue with the city, its history, and the people who inhabit our spaces. We do not chase awards for their own sake, but we deeply value the recognition that our commitment to context-driven, material-honest design, such as our work at the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP), resonates with both the architectural community and the public.
Our practice, spanning over 25 years in Bengaluru, is built on the belief that buildings should evolve with time and the human experience. Whether we are designing large-scale public institutions or intimate residences, our approach remains consistent: we listen to the site, observe the light, and respect the raw honesty of materials like concrete and stone.
Recognition from the AD100 list and being a finalist at the World Architecture Festival for our work on the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP) are significant touchpoints in our journey. They serve as moments to pause and reflect on our practice. We find equal fulfillment in the academic exchanges at institutions like Parul University, where we share our process with the next generation of architects, as we do in seeing our projects discussed in publications like Elle Decor India and Icon Magazine.
Every project is a process of exploration. We do not use templates. By focusing on adaptive reuse, heritage conservation, and creating spaces that breathe, we aim to contribute to the city’s narrative. Our philosophy is that a building is a living entity, and our role is to steward that process with care and persistence.
Mathew and Ghosh
I am Soumitro Ghosh, and along with Nisha, we have spent 30 years in Bengaluru learning from the city's chaos and quiet corners. We believe that a building is a dwelling that grows, much like a city, and our work is simply a slow, thoughtful way to participate in that growth.
