L'amour: A European-Inspired Bungalow Renovation
Step into L'amour, where classic European design meets the pulse of modern Mumbai living. We reshaped this bungalow to focus on light, heritage, and quiet luxury.
The exterior facade of the L'amour bungalow project. My goal was to create an elegant and inviting first impression, using classic architectural elements, wrought-iron railings, and integrated greenery to hint at the refined interiors within.
The main living area of the L'amour project, designed with a minimalist mindset. Arched doorways and recesses add architectural character, while a mix of neutral tones and a warm terracotta sofa creates a peaceful yet inviting atmosphere.
Another view of the living room, highlighting the interplay of color and form. The space is designed to feel balanced and simple, where the vibrant coral-pink sofa provides a focal point against the minimalist backdrop of white walls and marble accents.
The vestibule was designed as a graceful transition into the home. The classic black-and-white marble flooring, arched wooden door, and ribbed glass partition create a functional and elegant entrance with a distinct European character.
This bedroom was designed to reflect the client's vision of European vintage interiors. The space uses a soft, neutral palette, sheer drapery, and polished marble flooring to create an ambiance of understated grandeur and enduring sophistication.
The master bedroom is a personal haven, and this space balances aesthetics with function. The four-poster bed adds a classic touch, while modern pendant lighting and a neutral palette keep the room feeling fresh, serene, and tailored to the client's lifestyle.
This view of the bedroom showcases the balance of minimalism and thoughtful accents. The patterned headboard and colorful bedside lamps add personality, while the arched niche reveals a modern study area, blending beauty with practicality.
A quiet reading corner in the master bedroom. The striped armchair, classic chandelier, and full-length mirror are carefully chosen to create a sophisticated nook that feels both timeless and comfortable, enhanced by natural light from the large window.
A view from the bed, showing how the space breathes with light and serenity. The paneled wall adds texture and a sense of structure, while the open layout and minimal decor create an effortlessly calm environment to begin and end the day.
The bathroom in this bungalow is an experience in quiet luxury. I used a bold red vanity as a centerpiece, contrasted with textured concrete walls, patterned flooring, and brass fixtures to create a powder room that feels both stylish and deeply personal.
About L'amour: A European-Inspired Bungalow Renovation
Our renovation strategy for this bungalow focused on 'controlled light'. We replaced heavy, dark internal walls with ribbed glass partitions and introduced arched doorways, which completely transformed the natural light distribution across the ground floor. When you explore these images, notice how these architectural interventions make the floor plan feel significantly more open without requiring major structural changes, a key solution for renovating older bungalows.
Designing the L'amour project was a study in balancing European heritage with the practical demands of modern family living. We approached the layout with a minimalist mindset, ensuring that every element—from the terracotta sofa in the living area to the custom-made walk-in closet—served a clear purpose without adding clutter.
Our material palette was deliberately restrained. We utilized Italian marble for the flooring to provide a reflective, clean foundation. This decision allowed us to introduce bold, warm accents like the red vanity in the powder room and walnut wood finishes in the cabinetry without overwhelming the senses. By creating custom-made joinery, we maximized storage capacity while maintaining a gallery-like aesthetic that keeps the focus on the home's architecture.
For those considering a similar renovation, the key takeaway is the importance of transition spaces. The vestibule we designed acts as a deliberate buffer zone. By using black-and-white marble patterns and warm lighting here, we successfully pivot the mood from the busy Mumbai streets to the serenity of the home interior. This project serves as a practical example of how classic architectural features can be adapted through thoughtful detailing and precise spatial planning, proving that luxury and functionality can coexist seamlessly.
