This entire sequence for 'Gud Se Meetha Ishq' was choreographed and shot in under an hour. It shows my ability to work efficiently under extreme pressure and tight deadlines, a common reality in TV production.
Quiet rehearsals lead to loud performances. More behind the scenes footage from 'Premleela', showing the focused work that goes into every dance number before the cameras start rolling.

About Behind the Scenes: On Set with the Stars
TV sets don't wait for anyone, and deadlines are part of the daily grind. Whether I am directing a romantic montage or a festive group number, my focus is on efficiency—blocking the camera angles, simplifying steps, and ensuring the cast feels comfortable in under an hour. When you see me behind the monitor, I am not just watching the steps; I am making sure the actor feels confident, the frame looks right, and we get the perfect shot before the production timeline moves on.
On-Set Choreography: The Reality
Directing dance for television is a unique challenge. Unlike stage shows, TV choreography is about storytelling through movement that works for the camera. I work across various channels like Star Pravah, Dangal TV, and Star Bharat, handling everything from daily serial sequences to complex mythological episodes.
My approach is built on two pillars: speed and comfort.
1. Actor-First Movement Most actors aren't professional dancers. My job is to take their unique body language and enhance it. I hear the phrase, "Are mala nahi jamat" (I can't do it) all the time, and my response is always the same: we don't need perfection, we need expression. I break down tough routines into natural movements that look great on screen, even if the actor has only a few minutes to rehearse.
2. Camera-Ready Design Choreography for TV is different from stage performance. I collaborate directly with the DOP (Director of Photography) to ensure every move complements the trolley shots, lighting, and frame composition.
Why My Process Works
- Rapid Adaptation: From 'Maha Sangam' crossovers to sudden script changes, I adapt routines on the fly to fit the set constraints.
- Technical Precision: Whether it's managing heavy props for mythological scenes or ensuring lip-sync timing, I handle the technicalities so the cast can focus on their performance.
- Stress-Free Environment: A tense set leads to stiff performances. I keep the rehearsals light and positive, which is why even in high-pressure shoots, the final result feels authentic and fun.
