Behind the Flow: Practice and Candid Moments
Beyond the stage lights, this is where the real work happens. From sunrise sessions on the beach to quiet rooftop rehearsals, this is a look at what goes into finding that state of flow.
A freestyle poi session with the clouds as my backdrop. I love practicing outdoors, using the natural landscape as inspiration for my flow.
Practicing with my contact staff on the beach against the sun. The silhouette creates some cool visuals, and it's a peaceful place to work on new techniques.
A freestyle session on my rooftop with contact poi. This is a hybrid style that combines elements of traditional poi spinning and contact juggling.
Finding my flow on a quiet beach. Sometimes the best practice sessions are just me and my poi, with no music but the sound of the environment.
Another moment of practice by the sea. The beach is a great place to work on balance and footwork while spinning.
I found the clouds, but the internet connection is another story. Taking a break from the city and getting lost in the mountains is the perfect reset.
Taking a moment to hang out with a friendly dog before a practice session. Animals and nature are a big part of my life outside of performing.
A quiet moment of poi practice on the sand. Paradise really is a state of mind.
Another shot from the mountains, just soaking in the view. Being in nature helps me clear my head and come back to my art with fresh energy.
About Behind the Flow
Flow arts aren't just about the gig, they’re about the hours of muscle memory drilling. Whether I'm on a rooftop in Bengaluru or a quiet beach, I'm constantly working on contact patterns and footwork. It’s the only way to make fire spinning or complex LED shows look seamless when the music drops.
I view my flow practice a lot like coding, it's all about repetition, iterating on the logic, and eventually, hitting that flow state. When I'm not behind a laptop, I'm likely somewhere with enough space to spin poi or contact staff. It keeps me sane.
You’ll see me practicing everywhere, from my local spot in Bengaluru to the sands of Goa. The environment really changes the headspace. The rhythm of the waves or the quiet of the hills helps me tune out the noise and lock into the loopstation beat. Whether it's LED pixel poi or traditional fire spinning, every move you see in my performances is the result of these long, often solitary, practice sessions.
I'm not just spinning, I'm building a connection between the music I loop live and the visual patterns I create. It’s an ongoing process of trying new combos, failing, and finally getting it right. If you want to know how I translate these practice sessions into a live set for your event, or if you're just curious about the mechanics of the gear I use, I'm happy to chat.
Aniketh Ak
I'm Aniketh. By day, I'm deep into code, but my real sanity comes from building tracks on my loopstation and spinning fire. I’m a beatboxer and flow artist, and honestly, I just love getting lost in the music and sharing that vibe.
