About Lehengas & Half-Sarees
When you come to me for a lehenga or half-saree, we don't just select a design. I walk you through the specific drape and flare, discussing whether a classic, heavy Kanchivaram or a lighter Organza base will better suit your event's movement, the venue, and your personal comfort throughout the day.
My design process for lehengas and half-sarees (Langa Voni) focuses on versatility and fit. Whether you are looking for a traditional engagement outfit or a modern look for a sangeet, I specialize in tailoring pieces that feel natural and celebratory.
Repurposing Heritage Fabrics
One of my favorite parts of this work is transforming cherished Kanchivaram sarees into structured lehengas. We preserve the original zari borders and weave, but I construct the skirt with modern padding and can-can layering to achieve the perfect volume. This gives you a fresh, contemporary silhouette while keeping the emotional value of the original saree.
Choosing Your Fabric
- Kanchivaram Tissue & Silk: Best for those who want that regal, structured look. These fabrics hold pleats beautifully and are perfect for muhurthams or traditional ceremonies.
- Organza: If you prefer something light and ethereal, organza offers a delicate flow. It is excellent for pre-wedding functions like haldi or mehendi where you need to move comfortably.
- Custom Embroidery: Every lehenga comes with a matching, hand-embroidered blouse. I use Maggam work, zardosi, and French knots to ensure the blouse detail complements the skirt, rather than overpowering it.
The Fitting Process
I operate out of my Jayanagar studio where we conduct two rounds of trials. We ensure the waist is comfortable, the dupatta is pinned to your height preference, and the blouse provides a precise, flattering fit. My goal is to make sure you can dance, sit, and celebrate without ever needing to adjust your outfit.
