Our Voice for the Art: Preserving Kathputli Traditions
Kathputli is not just a show; it is a legacy. Here, I advocate for the vitality of Rajasthani puppetry, proving that when we share our stories, our culture stays alive and vibrant for everyone.
Here I am speaking at a conference with the ICCR. I am saying what I always believe: art never dies, people do. We must not call any art form 'dying', because it lives in the hearts of the people who watch it.
About Our Voice for the Art
When I stand at conferences like those with the ICCR, I do not just speak about puppets; I challenge the notion that this is a dying art. If you are organizing a cultural event, an educational seminar, or a panel discussion where you want a conversation that goes beyond performance to the heart of cultural preservation, I am open to sharing our story and the history of our craft.
Pade likhe logon ne kaha ki yeh dying art hai (Educated people have said this is a dying art). I request everyone, please do not say this. Art never dies; it is people who pass away. If we continue to perform, teach, and discuss our craft, this tradition will live on from our grandparents to our grandchildren.
My work at conferences and cultural festivals is not about marketing; it is about preservation. Whether I am speaking at the ICCR, performing at NMACC, or conducting workshops at IIT Delhi, my message remains the same: Kathputli is our parampara (tradition). When I speak at these forums, I am not just a performer; I am a custodian of a history that dates back centuries.
Why Invite Me to Speak?
- Deep Cultural Insight: I provide a perspective on folk art that connects the past to the present, helping audiences understand why these stories still matter today.
- Authentic Storytelling: I share the reality of the artist's life, the struggle to keep the craft alive, and the joy of seeing a child's face light up when a wooden puppet begins to dance.
- Engagement: My talks are interactive. I bring puppets, share stories about the wood carving and puppet-making process, and invite questions about the challenges and beauty of being a puppeteer in the modern world.
If you want your audience to feel the pulse of Indian folk culture, I am ready to bring that voice to your stage.
