About Srikalahasti Kalamkari Dupattas
Unlike machine-printed textiles, every line you see here is drawn by hand using a traditional kalam. We specialize in two distinct textures: the sheer, ethereal drape of organza for festive events, and the fluid, rich fall of mulberry silk for heirloom collections. When you select a piece, consider the occasion, as organza brings a crisp, structured look, while our silk dupattas offer a soft, natural weight that settles beautifully over any outfit.
The Srikalahasti Difference
True Srikalahasti Kalamkari is defined by the use of a kalam, or bamboo pen, to execute freehand drawings directly onto fabric. This is distinct from block-printing methods. Our process adheres to historical techniques, utilizing natural vegetable dyes to achieve earthy, authentic tones that do not fade with the vibrancy of chemical alternatives. Each motif, whether inspired by temple art or botanical vines, is a unique creation.
Choosing Your Fabric
The choice of base fabric significantly alters the drape and longevity of the dupatta:
- Pure Organza: Best for occasions requiring structure. It holds a crisp shape, making it ideal for layering over structured kurtas.
- Pure Silk & Chennuri: Known for a subtle sheen and fluid drape. These are our most versatile options, suitable for both formal gatherings and intimate celebrations.
- Pure Georgette & Mulberry Silk: Reserved for our heirloom collector pieces. These fabrics offer a heavy, luxurious fall and are often paired with integrated Sozni or Zardozi embroidery.
Customization and Care
We believe that your wardrobe should reflect your personal narrative. If you require a specific motif, size, or color palette to match an existing ensemble, we provide custom design services. Because these are hand-painted works, slight variations in color and pattern density are expected, confirming that your piece is truly unique. To preserve the integrity of the natural dyes, we recommend dry cleaning only.
