Art is how I see and remember the world. Every painting or drawing I make is a part of my own story - sometimes it’s about the street scenes I see daily, other times, it’s the feeling I get when I see old temples or misty landscapes during my travels in Karnataka. I’m always a kala vidyarthi (art student), learning something new with each sketch.
I’m drawn to things people usually overlook. My Indian object studies art includes everything from Golgappa stalls to Belada hannu (wood apple) - things that are super local and close to my heart. Sometimes I mix reality with a dash of surreal, like a toothbrush with teeth for bristles. I work in series too, so you might find drawings that focus just on hands and their subtle movements.
Traveling with my sketchbook is my way of capturing moments. Many pieces are direct from life - quick pen sketches or acrylic paintings made on the spot. You’ll spot Karnataka travel sketchbook scenes like Yana caves, Coorg jeeps, and kallina kettanegalu (stone carvings). I’ve also explored spiritual themes like the cobra for Nagarapanchami and decorated elephants inspired by Anegudde temple.
I choose materials based on the subject - colored pencils on brown paper for texture, pen and ink for Kalamkari ink drawing, acrylics for vibrancy, and watercolors for softness. Sometimes I go for detailed realism, other times I keep it loose and spontaneous with live sketching. Each piece is an honest reflection of what I felt in that moment.
