About Leash Manners & Calm Walks
Tightening your grip on the leash rarely works; it usually just makes your dog pull harder because they feed off that tension. Instead, I teach you to use specific stop-and-wait signals that show your dog exactly when the walk is allowed to continue. This puts you in charge of the pace, turning a chaotic walk into a calm, controlled bonding experience.
Understanding Why They Pull
Most dogs pull because they are excited to explore the world or simply because they don't know the rules of the road. In our sessions, I look at how your dog reacts to the environment around your home. Whether it is a busy street in Delhi or a quiet colony park, the goal is to shift your dog's focus back to you, not the distraction ahead.
My Training Method
I don't believe in harsh collars or yelling. We rely on positive reinforcement. When your dog walks on a loose leash, we reward them with praise or treats. If they pull, we stop. It sounds simple, but it requires consistency from every family member walking the dog. I will show you how to master the 'Heel' command and how to use the 'Stop' cue effectively so your dog understands that the walk only happens when they are calm.
Training in Your Environment
Since I train across Delhi NCR, we practice right in your neighborhood. This is crucial because your dog needs to learn manners where they actually walk, not in a sterile training center. We cover:
- Loose-leash walking: Keeping the leash slack and the dog by your knee.
- Impulse control: Staying calm even when other dogs or cars pass by.
- Safety cues: Reliable 'stop' and 'come' commands that keep your dog safe off-leash.
Training isn't just about the walk; it's about building communication. When your dog looks to you for direction instead of dragging you along, you both enjoy the time outside so much more.
