About The Sound of Yoga: Chanting & Albums
Chanting is not a performance. It is a method of study. When you listen to these recordings and follow along with the provided scripts, you are actively engaging the mind, helping to stabilize it before meditation. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner, these albums are designed to help you integrate the rhythm and philosophy of the texts into your daily ritual.
Understanding Chanting as Abhyasa
In the Yogavijnana framework, chanting is a logical process rather than an aesthetic experience. We rely on the concept of 'abhyasa'—the consistent practice done for a long time. By chanting the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, or the Upanishads, you are training your mind to focus on a single object. This is a vital preparation for 'dharana' (concentration) and eventually 'dhyana' (meditation).
The Collection
I have produced these albums to make foundational texts accessible to all. We provide scripts in six languages (Sanskrit, English, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam), ensuring that the barrier to entry is minimal. You can follow the rhythm, learn the correct pronunciation, and internalize the philosophy behind the words.
How to Use These Albums
- For Beginners: Use the chanting as a background tool while you go through the scripts to learn the sounds. This builds familiarity with the Sanskrit language.
- For Practitioners: Use the recordings to regulate your breath during your practice. The cadence of the chant helps in steadying the breath, which in turn steadies the mind.
- For Serious Students: These recordings serve as a guide for your daily study. The repetition allows you to memorize the verses, making the knowledge a part of your intellectual foundation.
My goal is to provide resources that support your journey toward self-inquiry. These are not merely audio files; they are tools for deeper understanding.
