Behind the Scenes: My DJ & VDJ Process
It takes more than hitting play to keep a dance floor alive. Here is a look at the technical setup and prep work that goes into every gig.
Arriving early to the venue for a sound check is a crucial part of my process. It guarantees that the audio is perfect before the first guest arrives.

About Behind The Scenes
You don’t see the hour I spend at the venue before the guests arrive. My process is strictly 'no jugaad'—I handle the sound check personally, calibrating my Pioneer gear to the room’s specific acoustics and mapping my visuals to the venue's LED wall so there is zero glitching when the party starts.
Professionalism behind the console is non-negotiable. Whether I am playing a corporate gala for 1500 people or an intimate wedding in Goa, the foundation is the same: reliable hardware and thorough preparation.
The Tech Setup
I don’t rely on whatever speakers are lying around. My rider requires a professional PA system, and I carry my own Pioneer CDJ-2000NXS2 or Pioneer XZ console. Arriving early isn't a formality—it is a technical necessity to sync my laptop for the VDJ experience. When I’m mixing music videos, custom motion graphics, and live audio, I need to ensure the LED video wall mapping is perfect before the first track drops.
Life on the Road
Being a globetrotting DJ means the 'workplace' changes every weekend. One day I’m setting up a mobile console in a truck for a Baraat, the next I’m in a green room in Tokyo preparing a corporate set. The images here show the reality of the grind—the travel, the sound checks in empty halls, and the focus required to stay sharp across time zones.
My Approach to Gigs
- Pre-Event Sync: I hold consultations to lock in 'Must Play' and 'Do Not Play' lists so there are no surprises.
- Audio-Visual Balance: I am a VDJ, not just a DJ. I actively manage the visual flow on venue screens to match the tempo of the music.
- Interactive MCing: I do not hide behind the decks. You will see me on the mic, reading the crowd, and interacting with the room to keep the energy spike high throughout the performance.
Mervin Tixeira
I’m Mervin. I don't believe in just standing behind a console and pressing play. I’m the one on the mic making noise, checking the sound systems myself, and making sure your dance floor never goes quiet.
