About Men's Grooming & Makeup
Men's makeup is an art of subtraction. For shoots, I rely on a corrective technique that neutralizes redness and shine without leaving a cakey texture on the skin. It is all about giving the camera that crisp, clean look while letting your natural skin texture breathe, ensuring every close-up looks intentional.
When I am on set for a brand campaign or a magazine shoot, my goal for male models and actors is simple. I want them to look polished, not made up. The challenge with studio strobes is managing glare and oil, especially around the T-zone and nose. I use high-performance blotting powders and anti-shine sprays to keep that matte finish consistent, even through long shooting days.
I focus heavily on structural contouring. Instead of heavy pigment, I use subtle sculpting to sharpen jawlines and cheekbones, making sure the face catches light just right. For hair, I steer clear of sticky, stiff products that look artificial. I prefer sea salt sprays and matte clays that create natural volume and hold, giving you that natural look that stays put under hot lights.
If we are working on a commercial, I adjust for the lighting setup. Natural light shoots in Mumbai need a different approach than high-contrast studio strobes. I am always at the video village during the shoot, ready to fix flyaways or shine between takes so you do not have to worry about the details.
