Group Performance & Annual Day Choreography
Routine & Concept
- Custom Design: Creation of a 3 to 4-minute routine tailored specifically for non-dancers (6-20 people).
- Structure: Focus on synchronized hand gestures, walking formations, and pose transitions to ensure a clean look.
- Audio Mix: Professional editing and mixing of 2-3 tracks (Bollywood, Retro, or Semi-Classical).
Training & Execution
- Rehearsals: Includes 10 hours of in-person training (typically 5 sessions of 2 hours).
- Instruction: Sessions led by a Senior Assistant with final polishing visits by Urmilla.
- Venue: Rehearsals at client premises (Mumbai) or Tarang Studio.
- Event Support: Includes one backstage coordinator for queuing and run-throughs on show day.
Music Video & On-Screen Choreography
Screenplay & Movement
- Camera Blocking: Movement designed specifically for camera angles (16:9 or 9:16 frames) to flatter the artist.
- Hook Creation: Development of a signature "Hook Step" designed for viral marketing potential.
- Artist Coaching: Private movement coaching for lead talent to ensure comfort with lip-syncing while moving.
Production Support
- Pre-Production: 2-3 rehearsal sessions to lock the routine before the shoot day.
- On-Set Direction: 1 Day (up to 10 hours) of direction to guide dancers and cinematographers.
- Staffing: Includes Urmilla plus 1 Assistant Choreographer for background dancer management.

- Rehearsals: 8-12 hours of intensive rehearsal supervision at Tarang Studio.
- Styling: Mood boarding for costumes to match lighting and themes.
- Tech Run: Personal presence during venue technical rehearsals for sound and light checks.

What Drives My Choreography
After 25 years in dance, I still get goosebumps before every show. For me, choreography is not just about nailing steps - it’s about shaping stories and moods. I want the crowd to feel something, whether it’s at a massive concert or your sangeet that feels like a full-on awards show.

I've worked on everything from Amit Trivedi’s Indradhanush concerts to my own studio’s 'Manch' annual showcase. Taking a music composer’s vision or a family’s big night, I craft performances that fill huge venues - and bring the energy up. My approach is about making every show feel lived-in, not just rehearsed.

My Story
Started with folk, fell for the stage, and never left. Twenty-five years moving, creating, teaching - that’s me. Tarang Studio is my happy place, especially during 'Manch' season. Sangeet madness, studio chaos, and finding my sukoon (peace) in nature - all part of the ride. Forty and still grooving, I’m just here for the next dance, the next story, the next big smile.
