Reconnect with your roots through the rhythm of Garba, the grace of Kathak, and the energy of contemporary fusion, taught by Urmilla Thakkar.
Capturing the festive spirit with a vibrant Garba piece. My Navratri workshops are all about learning authentic steps and spins, so you can feel the energy and joy of the festival on the dance floor.

The Garba fever is real. During Navratri, my studio transforms into a dance hub where we celebrate with non-stop music and energetic choreography.
Getting ready for Navratri. This is the season of vibrant colors, energetic music, and of course, lots of Garba and Dandiya, which I specialize in teaching.

A throwback to a classic black and white era-inspired choreography. My classes often explore semi-classical movements, focusing on grace, expression, and timeless elegance.
A mirror selfie showing off one of my Navratri outfits. The festival is a time for me to fully immerse in the culture, both in my personal style and my dance.
About Indian & Folk Fusion
In my fusion sessions, we focus heavily on abhinaya, or the art of expression. You won't just learn steps; you will learn how to use your posture, hands, and eyes to tell a story, making sure your traditional folk movements feel graceful rather than rushed.
My approach to Indian and Folk Fusion is about balance. Whether we are working on a high-energy Garba medley for Navratri or blending Kathak basics with contemporary music, the goal is to respect the technique while allowing your personal style to shine through.
What You Will Learn
We start with the technical foundations—posture, hand mudras, and footwork—before moving into choreography. You will learn how to:
- Command the stage: Even in a small studio, you will learn to project your energy as if you are performing at an auditorium like St. Andrews.
- Master the 'Twirl': Whether it is a ghagra spin or a circular Garba move, we break down the balance and control required to do it safely and beautifully.
- Blend Styles: I teach you how to pick up the beat, whether it is a traditional folk track or a modern fusion song.
The Studio Experience
We hold classes across Bandra, Powai, Versova, and Andheri West. Each studio is air-conditioned with sprung wooden flooring, which is crucial for protecting your joints during jumps and spins. The community here is vibrant—you will see people from all walks of life, from absolute beginners to those who have been training for years. We do not just do steps; we create a space where you can find your sukoon after a long day. If you want to dive deeper, keep an eye out for our specialized intensive workshops during festival seasons, where we spend extra time on costumes, props, and stage presence.
