About Film & Music Video Choreography
When we choreograph for the screen, we are not just watching the dancers. We work closely with the Director of Photography to nail the camera blocking. It is about making sure the energy of the performance translates perfectly through the lens, ensuring every step hits the mark for the final cut.
Filming is a totally different game compared to a stage performance. In the studio, you might be focused on the full movement, but on set, we have to consider frame limits, depth, and the continuity of the dance across multiple takes.
Our process starts with Pre-production. We collaborate with the production team to understand the concept. Are we shooting a high-energy music video, or is this a subtle sequence for a film scene? We block the choreography so it fits the shot list perfectly, rather than expecting the camera to chase us.
Then comes the training. We spend 2 days in pre-shoot rehearsals with the lead talent and dancers. We do not just teach steps; we train for stamina. Shooting a 3-minute sequence can take an 8-10 hour day, and the energy has to be just as high in the last take as it was in the first.
On the shoot day, we handle the on-set direction. We supervise the styling to ensure footwear and outfits actually allow for the movement, manage the continuity of the steps, and work with the crew to ensure the dancers are hitting their marks. Whether it is an ad film, a music video, or a regional film like our work on Aatli Batmi Phutli, we treat the screen as our stage.

I'm Tijo. For me, choreography is about storytelling through movement. Seeing my team's work on the big screen in films like Aatli Batmi Phutli was a total pinch-me moment, but it all comes back to the same foundation we teach in our daily classes. I bring that same TDA energy to every project, ensuring the dance serves the director's vision.
