Young Makers: Hands-On Woodworking Programs for Kids & Teens
Real tools, real wood, real skills. We teach kids and teens how to build, solve, and create, trading screen time for the satisfaction of making something from scratch.
Why should kids start woodworking? It builds resilience, improves problem-solving skills, and boosts creativity. This video shows young makers learning, focusing, and having fun in a safe, supportive environment.
Our mentors are passionate about teaching the next generation. Here, a mentor helps a young maker use a drill safely, guiding her through the process of building her project.
"I'm going to build a table for my room." Hear from 14-year-old Devin, who is in his third week of our Maker School program, learning joinery and building his own furniture.
The epic final photo from our Tangram Table project in Mangalore. This is the proud result of teamwork, problem-solving, and a full day of hands-on making.
We love bringing the workshop to schools. Here, students at Mallya Aditi get hands-on with wood and tools. It's not about what is being made, but the pure act of making together.
The next generation of makers is here. We love seeing kids get curious and confident with tools, learning skills that will last a lifetime.
Students from Canadian International School visited us to make these cool custom robot pen stands. Our school programs are all about experiential learning and making education fun.
What do you dream of making? This colorful wall of blocks was a collaborative project made by our young makers, showing what's possible when creativity is unleashed.
A personalized pencil holder made in our summer school program. We encourage kids to make their creations their own, adding color and personal touches.
Another unique creation from our summer program. We believe in letting kids make mistakes safely, because that's where the real learning and creativity happens.
About Young Makers: For Kids & Teens
It is not just about building a stool or a desk shelf. When your child picks up a jigsaw or learns how to measure wood for a mortise and tenon joint, they are learning how to think in 3D and solve real-world problems. We focus on that specific 'I made this' moment, ensuring they walk away with a project they crafted themselves and the genuine confidence that comes with handling real tools safely.
Beyond the Screen
We believe making things is the missing pillar of development. Our programs for 7 to 17-year-olds are built on the idea that kids don't need 'craft projects'—they need real tools and real materials. Whether it is our weekly maker clubs, intensive summer camps, or specialized portfolio building sessions for older teens, the goal remains the same: teach them to love the process, not just the result.
The Workshop Way
We bring the same professional-grade environment to our young makers that we use for our adult workshops. Safety is our non-negotiable baseline. Every session starts with an induction on tool operation—drills, sanders, mitre saws, and Japanese saws.
We have partnered with schools across Bengaluru, including Mallya Aditi International School and TISB, to integrate maker education into their curriculum because we have seen the data: hands-on building improves problem-solving, emotional control, and resilience.
What They Build
- Beginner Basics: Understanding structural integrity while building custom pencil stands or basic organizers.
- Technical Joinery: Learning to measure, mark, and cut complex joints using hand tools like Zetsaws and chisels.
- Creative Fabrication: Moving into custom furniture like stools or side tables where they own the design from start to finish.
Our Horamavu space is fully kitted out for this. We provide all the lumber, protective gear, and expert mentorship. If you are looking to get your child off screens and into a space where they can learn to build, fail safely, and create, drop by or send us a message.
The Workshop
At The Workshop, we are obsessed with that happy buzz you get when you build something real. We have seen kids walk in shy and walk out with a table they built from scratch, and honestly, that transformation is why we do what we do. No screens, no shortcuts—just tools, materials, and a whole lot of making.
