First Festival Outfits for Newborns & Infants
Gentle, breathable cotton sets designed for your baby's first festivals. No scratchy embroidery or tight fits—just soft fabrics, safe natural dyes, and easy-change Angrakha styles that let your little one move, sleep, and play comfortably.
This is a perfect kurta for infants. The Angrakha style is easy to put on, and the soft cotton fabric is gentle on their skin. It's an ideal outfit for a summery wedding or a Haldi ceremony.
A few clips that make me smile. This video includes an adorable baby in one of my indigo print rompers, showing that style and comfort can start from the very beginning.
About First Festivals: Newborn & Infant Wear
When it comes to dressing a newborn for a festival, the biggest challenge is always the neckline. I exclusively use an Angrakha or wrap-around style with fabric ties for this collection. It means you are not pulling tight fabric over a fragile head, and the absorbent cotton lining keeps them comfortable even through a long Haldi ceremony or a crowded photo session.
Why I Choose Angrakha and Jhabla Styles
I design these pieces specifically for infants up to 12 months who are still getting used to the world. A standard pullover top can be distressing for a baby during a quick change. My wrap-around Angrakha designs allow you to lay the garment flat, place your baby on top, and tie it gently at the side. It is fuss-free, secure, and stays in place while they wiggle.
Material Matters
- Skin-First Cotton: Every piece is lined with soft Malmal cotton. This creates a barrier between the baby’s skin and any structural seams or embroidery, preventing the rashes that often come with cheaper synthetic festive wear.
- Chemical-Free Dyes: Since infants often chew on their sleeves, I use only Azo-free or natural vegetable dyes. You do not have to worry about what they are mouthing during the event.
- No-Hazard Design: You will not find heavy sequins, zippers, or sharp metallic buttons here. I use coconut shell or wooden buttons, or fabric ties, to ensure everything is safe for curious hands and mouths.
What Comes in the Set
Each set includes a top (Angrakha or Jhabla) and a matching cotton bottom. The bottoms are cut with extra room in the hips to easily accommodate cloth diapers or bulkier disposable ones, so the fit stays loose and comfortable all day. If you are prepping for a specific date—like a naming ceremony or a first Diwali—let me know the age and size, and I can suggest the best fit from my stock or customise the length for you.
The Little Stitch
I started The Little Stitch because I wanted clothes that did not feel like a costume for my own child. Every infant set here is something I would—and do—use on my own, focused purely on breathable cotton and practical, fuss-free designs for those first big family celebrations.
