Bharatanatyam: Mastering Abhinaya & Mudras
Bharatanatyam is poetry in motion. Join us to learn how to weave stories with expressive Abhinaya and precise Hasta Mudras, guided by our state-award winning masters.
A demonstration of powerful storytelling by Natya Mayur Kamalesh Master. He is enacting the 'Narasimha Avatar', one of Vishnu's ten forms, using dynamic expressions and movements to bring the character to life for his students.
Learning the language of expression directly from an expert. Kamalesh Master breaks down the meaning behind each gesture and posture, teaching students how to convey stories like the ten avatars of Vishnu through their performance.
A compilation showing the building blocks of Bharatanatyam. From learning basic 'mudras' with an instructor to practicing full-body movements, this shows the detailed, step-by-step process our students go through.
A beautiful moment of one-on-one instruction between our teacher Ms. Reshmakrishnan and her student Ashley. This personalized attention ensures that every student correctly learns the subtle art of expression and hand gestures.
About Telling Stories with Dance: Abhinaya & Mudras
We believe in the Guru-Shishya tradition here. In every session, you will get direct, one-on-one corrections for your posture and hand gestures, ensuring you understand the intent behind every movement before we dive into complex narratives.
From Basics to Storytelling
Bharatanatyam is much more than choreography. It is about communication. When you join our classes at our Mahadevapura or Kaggadasapura studios, we start with the foundation. You will master Araimandi posture, Nritta (pure dance steps), and the specific theory behind Asamyukta and Samyukta hand gestures.
Once the foundation is set, we shift focus to Abhinaya. This is where you learn to tell ancient stories, much like how our masters depict the ten avatars of Vishnu. Whether you are learning about Narasimha Avatar or practicing subtle facial expressions, our goal is to help you convey emotions with grace and authenticity.
Why Train With Us?
- Expert Guidance: Learn directly from seasoned professionals like Natya Mayur Kamalesh Master and Ms. Reshmakrishnan. Their decades of experience bring a depth to the classes that goes beyond standard tutorials.
- Small Batches: With only 10 to 15 students per batch, you are guaranteed individual attention. We record segments during private sessions, allowing for immediate visual feedback on your Angashuddhi.
- Structured Learning: Our curriculum is mapped to Karnataka State and Gandharva Grade Exams, providing you with a clear path if you choose to pursue certification.
- Supportive Environment: We laugh, celebrate, and learn together. Whether you are a total beginner or returning to the dance form after a break, you will find a place in our studio family.
Classes are held twice a week, giving you time to practice and internalize the nuances between sessions. Come by for a class and feel the difference that personalized attention makes.
