The Togetherness Initiative: Community Music Performances in Mumbai
We believe music is for sharing. Through our Togetherness Initiative, our students gain real stage experience by performing for residents at The Little Sisters of the Poor and at local events across Mumbai.
This is why we do what we do. Seeing the pure joy on the faces of the residents at The Little Sisters of the Poor as they dance to our students' performance is the greatest reward. Our Goan Masala medley brought everyone to their feet, creating a moment of shared happiness.

We don’t just teach notes. Our Togetherness Initiative takes students from the practice room to real stages like The Little Sisters of the Poor. It’s where they learn to handle microphones, manage setlists, and connect with a live audience, turning shy beginners into confident performers who truly own the spotlight.
Music is our language, but community is our purpose. At The Academy of Music, our Togetherness Initiative is where that belief turns into action. We see performance as the ultimate teacher. When a student steps out of the classroom to play at a community event, they are not just hitting chords—they are learning to communicate.
We arrange sets that bridge gaps, often blending nostalgic Kishore Kumar classics with English folk songs. This is a deliberate technique to help our students learn versatility. They practice dynamic microphone handling, stage presence, and how to read an audience. Whether it is a prayer song or a high-energy Goan medley, the goal is the same: to build the confidence that only comes from real-world performance. It transforms the learning experience from a static lesson into an active, social engagement that benefits everyone involved.
