Design Details and Finishing Touches
The final layers of a home are what truly define its character. From bespoke bathroom vanities to tranquil indoor garden features, these finishing touches turn functional zones into personal retreats.
This balcony is an urban retreat, featuring my custom-designed mid-century modern chairs in wood and cane. The design provides a comfortable and stylish outdoor seating area that seamlessly merges with the city skyline.
Another view of the Lumen House balcony, where the custom wooden chairs with woven details add warmth and texture. Paired with oversized planters, the space becomes a vibrant, green escape from the city.
For this balcony, I designed a space that could be enclosed with a retractable screen, making it usable year-round. The custom black and white marble flooring is reflected in the mirrored bar counter, making the area feel expansive and luxurious.
In this kid's bathroom, I designed a custom vanity with a marble top and brass legs to hold two statement golden sinks. The playful pink tile is balanced by the sophisticated materials, creating a space that is both fun and elegant.
This bar area was custom designed with a black marble counter, backlit bottle display, and integrated wine cooler. The fluted wood paneling and frosted glass cabinets tie it into the home's overall aesthetic of warm, modern luxury.
This guest bathroom features a custom light wood vanity with a black granite top. The textured black brick tiles and matte black fixtures create a bold, contemporary look that is both dramatic and refined.
In the Zen House, I designed this tranquil fountain area as a meditative retreat. A custom grey stone fountain sits on a bed of white gravel, surrounded by plants and cane chairs, creating a serene indoor garden.
The kitchen in the Zen House opens up to the fountain area through a black-framed glass partition. The custom ash wood cabinetry and black chevron floor tiles create a graphic and modern culinary space.
A pop of red from a kettle adds life to this minimalist kitchen. I designed the space with a white brick backsplash, black granite countertops, and handle-less wood cabinets for a clean, functional, and timeless look.
About Design Details & Finishing Touches
When I design a bathroom vanity or a balcony nook, I look for the intersection of utility and atmosphere. For instance, in our recent bathroom projects, we combine heavy marble tops with slender brass legs to keep the space feeling light, while ensuring the storage underneath is custom fitted to the plumbing layout. It is about making the mundane elements of your home feel intentional rather than standard.
Architecture in the Details
Design is rarely about one single piece of furniture. It is about how the vanity in your kid’s bathroom balances pink tile with brass, or how a balcony is modified to become an extension of your living room. My approach involves looking at these transition spaces as opportunities to introduce craftsmanship.
The Zen House Fountain
In the Zen House project, the fountain area is a perfect example of a custom architectural detail that defines an entire floor. By placing a grey stone fountain on a bed of white gravel, we created a meditative pivot point in the home. The key here was ensuring the chevron tile pattern flowed seamlessly from the kitchen into this garden space, using the glass partition to maintain visual connectivity without compromising the serene feel.
Practical Luxury
- Retractable Screens: For the Acropolis project, we installed retractable screens on the balcony. This allows the owners to switch between an open-air feel and a climate-controlled environment, depending on the Mumbai monsoon or the summer heat.
- Custom Vanities: We avoid standard cabinetry. Whether it is a light wood vanity with a black granite top or a floating marble slab, the build focuses on structural integrity. We ensure that every piece is mounted with the right load-bearing support, often involving reinforced steel or specialized joinery to match the specific aesthetic of the room.
These details are what separate a house from a home. They require patience in the selection of materials like natural stone, fluted wood, and metals, but the result is a space that functions perfectly for your daily life.
