My process involves a gradual layering technique. I begin with light sketches using hard pencils like 2H to outline the facial features. From there, I build up the shading using a variety of grades up to 8B to achieve deep contrast. Whether it is a portrait for a gift or a personal keepsake, I finish every piece with a matte fixative spray. This layer is vital as it prevents smudging and protects the delicate graphite dust from rubbing off.
