About Beachside Vows in Costa Rica
When planning a beach wedding in a place like Costa Rica, the challenge is balancing heavy Indian aesthetics with tropical humidity. We selected lightweight Tarun Tahiliani pieces for the ceremony to ensure the fabric moved with the ocean breeze, not against it. For the reception, we opted for a Gaurav Gupta lehenga, trading traditional heavy embroidery for sculptural silhouettes that hold their shape, allowing the bride to move comfortably from the sand to the dance floor.
Styling for the Tropics
Destination weddings require a shift in how we approach traditional attire. It is not just about the look; it is about the physics of the outfit in a humid, coastal environment.
The Ceremony: Ivory and Air For the beachside ceremony, we prioritized breathable fabrics. A heavy velvet or dense silk would have been impractical. By using ivory tones, we created a visual harmony with the white sand and lush greenery. The groom’s sherwani was constructed with tone-on-tone embroidery, providing texture without the heat-trapping weight of metallic threadwork.
The Sangeet: Movement and Color Sangeet events are high-energy. We shifted the palette to fuchsia and vibrant hues to contrast against the greenery of the Costa Rican landscape. The goal here was functionality. The lehenga needed to be structured enough to look grand but light enough to allow for unrestricted movement during the performances.
The Reception: Modern Silhouettes For the final evening, we moved away from tradition. An electric blue, sculptural lehenga provided a stark, modern contrast to the natural setting. It acted as a statement piece, blending the drama of high fashion with the ease required for a night of dancing.
