Custom Living and Dining Furniture for Modern Homes
Furniture should tell a story, not just fill a room. I design dining tables, sofas, and bar units that balance bold, minimalist aesthetics with the spatial constraints of city living, ensuring every piece earns its place in your home.
In the 'Aria' project, the dining area is an intimate space tucked behind a candle wall. We designed this African Marble monolith table, which sits under a 'Moon light' fixture, creating a dramatic and otherworldly dining experience.
This dining space is defined by a custom-commissioned, hand-painted tropical mural. We designed the dining table and chairs with natural cane and printed fabric to complement the artwork, creating a conversational and artistic corner in the home.
The informal bar in the 'Aria' living room is a crucial centerpiece. We designed it with a unique perforated pattern in dark stone, making it a sculptural element that overlooks the main seating area and connects the room.
We designed this sea-facing apartment to be a story of its surroundings. The living room features custom sofas and a sculptural center table, all oriented to embrace the sprawling ocean views. The furniture is minimal yet luxurious, ensuring the focus remains on the horizon.
For this dining space, we designed a large, monolith-shaped round table to anchor the room. Paired with soft pink chairs and a custom olive green leather chandelier, the entire setting is reflected in an antique mirror wall, creating a sense of depth and luxury.
This video gives a glimpse into the living and dining spaces of our 'Powai House' project. You can see how we use clean lines, natural light, and custom furniture like the L-shaped sofa and woven chairs to create an airy, cohesive, and conversational environment.
An airy living room from our 'Powai House' project. We designed a plush, light-colored L-shaped sofa to maximize seating in a compact space, pairing it with a sleek coffee table and an indoor swing to create a bright and relaxing atmosphere.
About this collection
In compact urban homes, a dining table should not merely consume floor area—it should invite conversation. For many of my clients, I replace bulky standard sets with custom solutions like curved banquette seating or marble-topped monolith tables. These integrate smoothly into your layout, turning awkward corners into functional, intimate dining zones without shrinking the room.
Every piece of furniture I create begins with a simple question: how does this space need to feel? Whether it is a sculptural bar unit in a Mumbai apartment or a teak dining set in a holiday home, my approach is to strip away the unnecessary until only the essential form remains.
Designing for Compact Spaces
I specialize in working with small footprints. This means opting for clean lines and multi-functional designs. My sofas often feature slim profiles with deep, comfortable seating to maximize lounging space without overwhelming the room. When designing dining areas, I prioritize visual lightness—using tapered legs, glass, or stone—to ensure the space feels open even when every chair is occupied.
The Role of Natural Materials
I am drawn to materials that age gracefully. You will see a lot of Burma Teak, natural cane, and solid stone in my work. These materials bring a sense of history and warmth into modern settings. My dining tables often feature hand-finished tops in Indian marble or charred wood, which are not just durable but bring a unique texture to the daily act of sharing a meal.
The Process of Creation
Collaboration is at the heart of my studio. Every piece is made in partnership with skilled hands, often in Gujarat, where we refine joinery and finishes until they are just right. If you are looking for a sofa that fits your specific alcove or a dining table that anchors your living room, I help you conceptualize, sketch, and build it from the ground up. We do not just build furniture; we create the background for your life's daily encounters.
Studio Nishita Kamdar
I see furniture as the characters in your home’s story. My work is not just about filling a floor plan, it is about finding the Ikigai of a room—whether that is a compact bar corner or a family dining table. I work with wood, stone, and cane to build pieces that feel rooted, honest, and entirely yours.
